Roberto Duran Net Worth $3 Million

Roberto Duran was born to Margarito Duran Sanchez and Clara Samaniego. He was raised in a poor family, so he needed to work odd jobs, including dancing in the streets, selling newspapers and shining shoes to help the family with money. He started boxing training when just eight, with experienced boxers at the Neco de La Guardia gymnasium. Roberto turned professional as a boxer when he was only 16 years old, but progressed rather quickly, and four years later, he won his first world title in the Lightweight division, with a victory against Ken Buchanan, marking the beginning of the increase in his overall net worth. During the next seven years, Roberto managed to retain the title, winning against several contenders such as Esteban De Jesus, Jimmy Robertson, Hector Thompson, and others, securing a record of 62 wins and only one loss. However, in 1979, Roberto gave up his title as the Undisputed Champion.

He then moved up the ladder to the Welterweight, and the net year won the Welterweight title in a victory against Sugar Ray Leonard by a unanimous decision over 15th rounds at an event held in Montreal, which became known as “The Brawl In Montreal”. However, Roberto didn’t remain champion for long, as he lost to Sugar Ray the same year. Before Roberto retired at the age of 50 in 2002, he won also the Light Middleweight world title and the Middleweight title in wins against Davey Moore in the 8th round, and against Iran Barkley in the 11th round, by a close decision, increasing his net worth a little bit more. He finished his career with 119 matches, and a result of 103 wins and 16 losses, and thanks to his accomplishments in 2006 he was inducted into the World Boxing Hall of Fame in Riverside, California, and later into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in Canastota, New York.

Apart from his successful career as a boxer, Roberto has appeared in several movies. His debut appearance was in “Rocky II” (1979), which was followed by the cast in “Harlem Nights” (1989), and in the role of Jesus Maroto in the TV series entitled “Miami Vice” in 1986. All these appearances also contributed to his net worth.

He has also dabbed in music, releasing a salsa CD, which has been quite popular in Argentina, and it certainly increased his net worth.

Speaking about his personal life, Roberto Duran has been married to Felicidad since 1968, with whom he has eight children. Two documentary movies “Los Puños De Una Nación (The Fists Of A Nation)”, tell the story of his personal life and boxing career, as does the movie entitled “Hands Of Stone”, directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz, which will be released in August of 2016.
