Richard Vershaun Seymour was born on 6 October 1979, in Gadsden, South Carolina USA, and is a retired professional American Football player, best known to play in the National Football League (NFL) as a defensive end from 2001 to 2012 for the New England Patriots, and so appeared in seven Pro Bowls. He then started games in 2002, leading to his first Pro Bowl appearance. Richard was named to his fourth consecutive Pro Bowl, however, missed out due to injury. He was injured again in 2006, but was named to his fifth straight Pro Bowl in 2007, although he didn’t play again – he had surgery on his knees and played in Super Bowl XLII which they lost against the New York Giants. He regained his health in 2008 to play for the full season.

In 2009, he was traded to the Oakland Raiders but refused to report to the Raiders as he was unhappy with the trade, but later reported to the team and started all games of the season. He was given a one year contract and got another Pro Bowl selection the following season, however, did not play due to injury. He was offered a two year $30 million contract extension in 2011 making him the highest paid defensive player in the NFL, and then earned another selection in the Pro Bowl. In 2013, his contract was voided due to him not fulfilling the required playing time in his contract, so he then retired after he wasn’t any contract that he thought he was wanted wanted.
