Phillip Jerome Hellmuth Jr. was born on 16 July 1964, in Madison, Wisconsin, and is a poker player as well as a commentator, author and actor, currently ranked in the top 100 on the leader-board called the “Global Poker Index”.

For his win against Cash, Hellmuth was given his first WSOP bracelet, along with $755,000 money prize. He earned his second bracelet three years later in 1992, and also added a sum of $168,000 to his total wealth. Overall, during his career, Phil Hellmuth has been able to secure 13 bracelets, a significant one being in 2012 for which he received more than €1 million. Most recently he won the Seven-Card Razz in 2015, and prize money of over $271,000. Ever since his successful match against Johnny Cash, Hellmuth has been regarded as one of the best poker players in history, and aside from attending WSOP events, Hellmuth has competed in National Heads-Up Poker Championship, which he won in 2005. In recognition of these achievements, Hellmuth was inducted into the WSOP’s Hall of Fame in 2007.

In addition, Hellmuth has been actively partaking in the “Poker After Dark” television series, which is currently presented by Leeann Tweeden. Since 2006, Hellmuth has also been commentating on the “Celebrity Poker Showdown” game show, which has  featured such celebrities as Ben Affleck, Tom Green, Lauren Graham, Kathy Griffin, and Dennis Rodman among many others.

Even though Phil Hellmuth has excelled as a professional poker player, he has also become a published writer. Up to date, Hellmuth has released several books, including “Phil Hellmuth’s Texas Hold ‘Em”, “The Greatest Poker Hands Ever Played” and “Play Poker like the Pros”. Additionally, Hellmuth has launched a series of poker videos, on which he teaches the principles of how to play poker. His best known video series are “Phil Hellmuth’s Million Dollar Poker System” and “Ultimate White to Black Belt Course”.

In his personal life, Phil married Stanford University psychiatrist Katherine Sanborn in 1990, and since 1992 they’ve lived in Palo Alto, California; they have two sons.

Throughout his career, Phil Hellmuth has become known not only for his victories, but also for his short-fused temperament and negative attitude. Hellmuth became infamous for insulting another poker player during the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, as well as for his controversial behavior during numerous other matches.
