At the age of 17, Martin started work as a model and transitioned to acting two years later. Her first film opportunity was in “The Poseidon Adventure” opposite Gene Hackman, a disaster film based on the Paul Gallico novel of the same name, and featured five Academy Award winners in the cast. The film opened up more opportunities for Pamela, and soon she would become the star of “Our Time” or “Death of Her Innocence”. She also became a part of “Buster and Billie” which was a tragic romance story that featured Robert Englund. Pamela Sue then gained a lot of popularity and would increase her net worth significantly when she was cast as Nancy Drew in “The Nancy Drew Mysteries”, alternating her role between that show and “The Hardy Boys Mysteries”. She would become a teen idol thanks to the two series that were based on popular novels. During the second season, the two shows were merged to become “The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries” which reduced her role in the show significantly, which eventually led her to leave the show.

In 1978, she appeared in an issue of Playboy magazine, which did her exposure and popularity no harm at all. Her next opportunity would be the night-time soap opera “Dynasty” which launched in 1981, revolving around the wealthy family the Carringtons, with Martin playing the spoiled heiress Fallon Carrington Colby; she stayed with the show until the end of the fourth season in 1984. Pamela then become a host of the popular comedy sketch program “Saturday Night Live”, and then went on to own her own theatre company located in Idaho.

For her personal life, it is known that Pamela has married and divorced three times firstly to Jorge Brusch (1979–80), then Manuel Rojas (1982–84) and thirdly to Bruce Allen (1990–98) with whom she has a son. She has talked about her struggle with interstitial cystitis, a disease also known as bladder pain syndrome (BPS) which causes chronic pain in the bladder making it uncomfortable to urinate. She’s also known to get involved with environmental causes. One of her notable involvements was a public service announcement to save pink dolphins in the Amazon River.
