Although born in Italy, Michelle spent her early childhood in Roanoke and Boerne in Texas She matriculated from Boerne High School, and enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin to study political science as a pre-law student. She joined a law group and worked at the capitol in Austin, which discouraged her from pursuing a legal career, so she took three years off and then attended the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she later graduated from with a degree in journalism.
