In 2000, Michael established the current world record of 30.85 sec for the unusual distance of 300m in South Africa. In 2000, during the USA Championships, he won the 400 m., but because of injury did not finish the 200 meters, so his last major achievement in the sports arena was winning an Olympic gold medal at the XXVII Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000 in the 400 m.
