Who is Matt Shultz?
A singer-songwriter and musician, who is perhaps known best as the lead singer of the rock band “Cage the Elephants”, Matthew Ray ‘Matt’ Shultz was born as under the zodiac sign of Libra, on 23 October 1983, in Bowling Green, Kentucky USA; he holds American nationality and his ethnicity is Caucasian.
Early life, family, and education
Matt was raised in Bowling Green alongside his brother Brad, by their mother and their step-father, after their parents divorced.

Their father was a musician, too, and their mother married Matt’s football coach which caused Matt’s decision to quit football and play music as an act of rebellion. They were poor, and Matt remembered how the children in school called his brother ‘poor boy’, while Matt was often teased for his old clothes and shoes.
He attended a local high school, and upon matriculating in 2001, he didn’t enroll at college but pursued his music career.
He grew up with his friends Daniel Tichenor, Jared Champion, and Lincoln Parish, who later became his bandmates, alongside his brother.
Before they started the band, Matt was working as a plumber, and then quit that job, and worked with his brother Brad at a sandwich bar.
Music career with Cage the Elephants
When the boys started playing together while they were high school students, their band was called Perfect Confusion, and in 2005, they released their first album. The band changed their name in 2006, and according to Matt the reason for that was an incident with a mentally disturbed man who approached the band after a show, and hugged Matt while repeatedly saying: ‘You have to cage the elephant.’
In 2007, the band signed with Relentless Records, and soon moved to London, England; since at that time, Lincoln Parish was just 16 years old, his parents had to sign over parental guardianship to the band.
They released their self-titled debut album in the UK on 23 June 2008, while in the US, Australia, Canada and Japan, among other countries, the album was released on 21 April 2009.
Their single “Ain’t No Rest for the Wicked” reached number 32 on the UK Singles Chart, and was featured in the video game Borderlands, and the movie “The Bounty Hunter”.
In January 2011, the band released their second album entitled “Thank You, Happy Birthday”, and the single “Shake Me Down” was nominated for an MTV Video Music Award Best Rock Vide that year.
In the following years, the band released three studio albums – “Melophobia” in 2013, “Tell Me I’m Pretty” in 2015, and “Social Cues” in 2019.
Nowadays, the members of the band are Matt as the lead singer, Brad who plays rhythm guitar, Nick Bockrath the lead guitarist, Matthan Minster on keyboards and guitar, Daniel Tichenor plays bass, and Jared Champion pon the drums.
Lincoln Parish left the band in 2013, and pursued his career as a producer.
Speaking about awards that the band has received, they had their first Grammy Award nomination for the Best Alternative Music Album for “Melophobia” in 2014, and then in 2016, for the album “Tell Me I’m Pretty” they won their first Grammy Award for Best Rock Album, winning again in 2019 for “Social Cues”.
Love life and relationships
There were various rumors both concerning Matt’s love life and his sexual orientation, which started after his performance in a dress at one of the band’s concerts, and because he often kisses his bandmates on the mouth.
However, he was romantically linked to various celebrities as well as unknown women, mostly his fans, but it’s known that he was married to French model and social media star Juliette Buchs, from 2014 until 2018, and although Juliette cited irreconcilable differences, rumors were that the reason for their divorce was Juliette’s wish to become a mother, while Matt wasn’t ready for the role of a father; it’s also believed that Matt cheated on Juliette. Some rumors were saying that Matt was having an affair with his now-wife, Eva Daire, while still married to Juliette, since shortly after his divorce, he started dating Eva publicly.
Eva Daire is an actress, singer and dancer, and it seems that the two met in their hometown of Bowling Green when Matt was visiting his mother; eventually after two years of dating, the two tied the knot in 2020.

Matt wrote the song “Love’s The Only Way” for Eva, and although it all seemed great, on 1 December 2021, Eva announced that they are separated, and were filing for divorce.
As of February 2022 the divorce is still in process, as it seems that the two weren’t able to reconcile; Matt is currently not seeing anyone, or he now prefers to keep his love life away from the public eye.
Other interests
Besides music, Matt had an interest in art, and threw his first art show in August 2019, held in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, New York, with help from friends and artists such as Beck and Danny Cole.
He also has an interest in fashion, and with The Frye Company has released a collection of boots.
Matt has no social media accounts, but according to some sources, he’s currently living in Nashville, Tennessee.
Tattoos
Several years ago, Matt’s friend who was studying to become a tattoo artist did him a tattoo of a band around his right forearm, and although it isn’t well-drawn, Matt said: ‘I love what it represents, you might regret it in the moment, but in the long run, you can’t regret your life or the lessons you’ve learned. …’
This didn’t stop him doing more tattoos, each of them having a special meaning for him.
There is a Facebook account under the name ‘Matt Shultz Tattoos’, and people assumed that it’s Matt’s page, however, the owner of the page is a tattoo artist from Australia.

Matt’s age is 38, he has long, light brown hair and hazel eyes; he weighs around 145lbs (66kgs) and is 5ft 9ins (1.75m) tall.
As of February 2022, his net worth has been estimated at over $1.5 million.
