Martin O’Malley Net Worth $3 Million Dollars

Martin‘s father Thomas Martin O’Malley was a  bombardier in the U.S. Army Air Force in the Pacific theater during the Second World War and later became a US Attorney for the District of Columbia. Martin attended Our Lady of Lourdes School  and matriculated from Gonzaga College High School. In 1985, Martin graduated from The Catholic University of America and in 1988 he earned a Juris Doctor in  School of Law of the University of Maryland, Baltimore.

O’Malley began his political career while still in college; he has joined Gary Hart’s presidential campaign for the 1984 election. Also, he ran for the Maryland State Senate in 1990 and lost, but in 1991 he was elected to the Baltimore City Council. Later, Martin worked as Bob Kerrey’s Maryland coordinator.

In 1999 Martin O’Malley decided to run for Mayor of Baltimore and even though his entrance to the election was unexpected, he won the general election with 90% of the vote. Four years later, he was re-elected with 87% of the vote. In 2002, Martin was rated as “The Best Young Mayor in the Country” by Esquire, and a few years later he was rated as one of America’s “Top 5 Big City Mayors”.

Despite thinking about running for governor for a few years, he decided to run only in 2006, and he was governor of Maryland from 2007 to 2015, because he was unable to run for re-election in 2014. O’Malley supports same-sex marriage, approves tougher enforcement against illegal immigration, supports gun control and is an opponent of capital punishment. The most important achievements he has made throughout career as governor are increasing the state’s minimum wage to $10.10, replacing the state’s death penalty with the sentence of life in prison, among many others. In 2015 O’Malley officially announced his candidacy for the 2016 presidential nomination, but withdrew early in 2016.

In his personal life, Martin met his wife Catherine “Katie” Curran while studying in law school. They married in 1990 and have four children Grace, Tara, William, and Jack. He is an inspiration for the fictional mayor of Baltimore Tommy Carcetti from HBO drama “The Wire“. He also starred in a movie “Ladder 49” and played himself. More, since O’Malley has Irish ancestry, he founded a Celtic Rock band O’Malley’s March in 1988. The band performed on O’Malley’s campaign events, and has even played at the White House.
