Afterwards, he won three fights against Americans Ricardo Smith, Buck Smith and Darryl Lattimore in 1996. In 1997, he won the fight against Bobby Butters, but after winning the fight against Rick Haynes on the 21st March 1997, Mark Breland announced his retirement from the professional sport.
