Cicely L. Tyson was born on 19th December 1924, in Harlem, New York City USA, to parents who had migrated from Nevis in the West Indies. Her first movie appearance was in “Carib Gold” in 1956, but she continued to star mostly in TV productions, in fact in at least one every year until the early 2000s. Some of her more notable roles were in “The Naked City” and “East Side/West Side” in 1963-64, “I-Spy”(1965-66), “The FBI”(1968-69), and “Gunsmoke”, “Mission: Impossible” and “The Cosby Show” during the early ’70s. Further recognitions of Cicely L. Tyson’s efforts have been the awarding of an honorary degree from the all-male Morehouse College in 2009, and a Doctorate in Humane Letter from the University of Columbia.in 2014

In her personal life, Cicely Tyson married trumpeter Miles Davis in 1981, but they divorced in 1988, and she has never remarried.
