After the divorce of Lisa’s parents, she was raised by her father and aspired to be a journalist. She studied and matriculated from Del Campo High School and then studied at the University of Southern California without graduating. Lisa started out as a host of the show “Scratch”, which was shown as more of a teen magazine show. She would then become well known for her reporting and documentaries, becoming part of Channel One News and being sent to locations such as Afghanistan and Iraq. Her work also earned her awards, and eventually she tried her hand out to become part of the series “The View”, which she succeeded in. It is said that she auditioned against 12,000 other hopefuls to earn the position. She was part of the show until 2002, and would then go back and become a reporter and journalist. She was also well known as one of the faces of the media during the September 11 attacks. In 2005, Ling became part of the show “National Geographic Explorer” and travelled to various parts of the world, reporting on things such as North Korea and the Colombia drug war. Her net worth was well established.

After this show, she joined “The Oprah Winfrey Show”, and became the show’s investigative reporter where she continued to cover events such as armies in Congo and Uganda, gang rape, child trafficking and the 2007 Virginia Tech Massacre. Ling was also offered a place in CNN’s “Planet in Peril”, where Lisa covered things such as elephant poaching and shark fishing. In 2011, “Our America with Lisa Ling” started on The Oprah Winfrey Network and would run for five seasons. One of Lisa’s latest works has been a documentary series with CNN entitled “This is Life with Lisa Ling”.

For her personal life, it is known that Ling married in 2007, to Paul Song and they currently reside in Santa Monica, California. They have a daughter who interestingly was announced during a talk show with Anderson Cooper. Her younger sister Laura has also become known for journalistic work similar to her sister’s and they’ve collaborated on a book together – “Somewhere Inside: One Sister’s Captivity in North Korea and the Other’s Fight to Bring Her Home”, which was published in 2010.
