Lang is the son of Lang Guoren who is also a musician. His love for music started at the early age of three after watching an episode of the cartoon “Tom and Jerry”, in which the Hungarian Rhapsody No. 2 by Franz Liszt was played. Lang was fascinated and began piano lessons with Professor Zhu Ya-Fen. At the age of five he was already entering competitions.

At the age of nine, Lang was studying at Beijing’s Central Conservatory of Music. His first teacher gave up on him, but another teacher gave him a chance, and his hope for a life in music came back. At an early age he started winning various competitions in China like the Xing Hai Cup Piano Competition, the International Competition for Young Pianists, and the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians to name a few.

With Lang’s early success, in 1997 he left for America to study at the Curtis Institute of Musicians in Philadelphia. Gary Gaffman, the president of the institute personally trained him during his years there.

After finishing his studies at the Curtis Institute, Lang’s immediately sky-rocketed into fame. Soon he was performing in concerts and halls and in front of numbers of famous personalities. Some of his early performances included playing at Carnegie Hall, playing with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic. His concerts and tours around the world tremendously elevated his career and increased his net worth.

Soon, Lang was recording albums that also became successful. These include the recording of his performance at the Tanglewood Music Center, Lang Lang Live at the Proms, Lang Lang Live at the Carnegie Hall, Lang Lang: Dragon Songs, and Chopin: The Piano Concertos. The sales and obvious popularity of his albums also helped his wealth.

Because of his talent and fame, Lang also frequented various television shows. Some of the programs that he appeared in include “60 Minutes”, “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno”, “CBS Early Show”, and “Good Morning America”. His various television appearances also made him famous in the mainstream media, as well as adding to his net worth.

In 2008, Lang launched the Lang Lang International Music Foundation with the aim of training the new generation of classical musicians. That same year his autobiography “Journey of a Thousand Miles” was also released.

Today, still at a comparatively young age for a classical musician, Lang is still very active in the music industry and is continuously training new generations of musicians through his foundation.

In terms of Lang’s personal life, the pianist is still apparently single.
