Ken Schrader started racing in 1971 and was a champion at Lake Hill Speedway in Valley Park, before moving up to sprint cars. In 1980, Ken was the rookie of the year in USAC’s Stock Car Division, and a year later finished third overall. He had a quite decent career in USAC series; winning four sprint car races, then 21 in midgets, six Silver Crown races, and 24 other midget races in various divisions.
In 1984, Schrader debuted in the NASCAR Cup Series, finishing 19th at Nashville, while in 1986 season, he had four top ten finishes, ending at 16th in the standings. Ken secured his first career pole in 1987 at the TranSouth 500, but ended 5th, which was his best finish at the time.
