Kelis Rogers, usually known as just Kelis, was born on 21 August 1979 in New York City, USA. She debuted on the pop music scene in 1997, since when Kelis has released six albums, and has performed in several movies, and been rewarded with a BRIT Award for Best International Breakthrough Act (2001), NME Award for Best R&B/Soul Act (2001), Q Award for Best Video (2000), and Silver Clef Raymond Weil International Award (2010).

Kelis attended Manhattan Country School, where she learnt to play many instruments, including saxophone, piano and violin. Later, Kelis studyied at Fiorello H.
