Kelis Rogers, usually known as just Kelis, was born on 21 August 1979 in New York City, USA. She debuted on the pop music scene in 1997, since when Kelis has released six albums, and has performed in several movies, and been rewarded with a BRIT Award for Best International Breakthrough Act (2001), NME Award for Best R&B/Soul Act (2001), Q Award for Best Video (2000), and Silver Clef Raymond Weil International Award (2010).

Kelis name is a portmanteau word made-up from her parents` names, Kenneth and Eveliss. Her father was an African-American Jazz musician and university professor, and her mom was a fashion designer. Kelis grew up in New York City, and it was her mom who encouraged Kelis to pursue a career in singing. Kelis attended Manhattan Country School, where she learnt to play many instruments, including saxophone, piano and violin. Later, Kelis studyied at Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts.

Kelis net worth started growing when she met the American production duo “The Neptunes” consisting of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Williams. Under the help of this production company, Kelis released her first album “Kaleidoskope” in 1998. The album entered the Billboard 200 and the top 50 of The Heatseekers, selling 11,000 copies in the first week, and by 2006, 249,000 album copies were sold. “Kaleidoskope” spawned her famous first hit single “Caught Out There” which became popular not only in United States, but also in United Kingdom, entering into the UK Singles Charts. In subsequent appearances, Kelis either performed as herself or voiced a character: “Freaknik: The Musical” (2010), “Duran Duran: Unstaged”, “Top Chef Masters” (2011), and “Fashion Police” (2012). Undoubtedly, these roles also helped Kelis to boost her net worth.

What is interesting is that Kelis is also a qualified chef. From 2006 to 2010, Kelis trained at Le Cordon Bleu culinary school. Kelis increased her net worth in 2006 when she published a cookbook with Lauren Pesavento.

Kelis was married to Nasir Jones from 2005-2010; they have a son.
