Who is Justine Lupe?

Justine Lupe-Schomp was born in Denver, Colorado USA, on 16 February 1989 – her zodiac sign is Aquarius, and she holds American nationality. She’s an actress, perhaps known best for playing the role of Willa Ferreyra, in the HBO series “Succession”, and the character Holly Gibney in the drama series “Mr. Mercedes”.

Early life, family and education

Justine grew up in Denver, where she received her primary education. She comes from an artistic family; her maternal grandmother, Kay Schomp, was an actress, and has a theatre named after her at the Denver School of Arts, while her father, John Lupe, works as an exhibition specialist at the Denver Art Museum. Her brother, Collin also works in the movie industry as a cinematographer and cameraman.


Justine started acting during her teenage years, and appeared in many high school productions of plays. After matriculating, she enrolled at the Denver School of Arts, from which she graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor’s degree in theatre. Justine then moved to New York City to pursue a full-time career as an actress, and enrolled at the prestigious Julliard School, graduating in 2011.

In 2014 and 2015, she played the role of Maddie in the ABC sitcom “Cristela”, created by and starring the comedienne Cristela Alonzo. Justine’s run in the series began in the second episode, as she was cast to replace Sarah Souza, who played Maddie in the pilot episode. From 2016 to 2018, she played Captain Ronnie Baker in six episodes of the critically-acclaimed thriller drama “Madam Secretary”, centered on the life of the US Secretary of State as she tries to balance her professional and private life.

From 2017 to 2019, Justine starred in the crime drama “Mr. Mercedes”, created by David E. Kelley and based on the “Bill Hodges” book trilogy by Stephen King.

The plot follows a retired detective played by Brendan Gleeson, who is determined to solve the case of ‘Mr. Mercedes’, who claimed 16 lives by driving through a queue with a stolen Mercedes. It originally aired on Audience, premiering on 9 August 2017, but as Audience was discontinued in 2020, it became unclear whether the series would be renewed for another season. For her performance in the series, Justine was nominated for the 2019 Saturn Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, but ended up losing to Sharon Stone.

Also in 2017, Justine had recurring roles in the FX drama “Snowfall”, and in the Amazon Original series “The Marvelous Mrs Maisel”.


Since 2018, Justine has been playing the role of Willa Ferreyra, in the award-winning satirical comedy-drama “Succession”, created by Jesse Armstrong, and starring Nicholas Braun, Peter Friedman and Matthew Macfayden. The series centers on the Roy family, who are fighting among themselves over the control of a media conglomerate owned by the family’s patriarch. “Succession” is one of the 100 best rated TV series on the IMDB website, and has won 56 awards, including nine Primetime Emmys.

Justine made her movie debut in the 2012 romantic comedy drama “Frances Ha”, written and directed by Noah Baumbach, and which starred Greta Gerwing, Mickey Summer and Adam Driver. In the same year, she appeared in the award-winning drama “Not Fade Away”, set in suburban New Jersey in the 1960s, following a group of friends who form a rock band in an attempt to become rock stars.

Two years later, Justine starred alongside Jane Krakowski and David Cross in the TV comedy “Dead Boss”, directed by Berry Sonnefeld. In 2017, she played a supporting role in the fantasy comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”, a film adaptation of the eponymous Shakespeare drama.

Justine has been happily married to non-celebrity Germain Gulick for about three years. In July 2021, she shared a touching post on Instagram, celebrating his birthday – ‘Happy birthday to this tender soul who fills me up with so much humor, and kindness and understanding, and love.’, she wrote.

They recently purchased a house in Los Angeles, California, where they’re currently residing with their pet dog, Lil.

Whenever she’s not busy with working on her projects, Justine takes a chance to travel with her husband. They have visited many countries, including Costa Rica, France and Iceland, and recently went on a three week long trip to Italy, which Justine documented on her Instagram account.


She likes watching sitcoms in her spare time, with some of her all-time favorites being “Seinfeld”, “The Office” and “Parks & Recreations”.

Justine is a very active person, and exercises almost every day. She goes jogging each morning, and to yoga classes two times per week, while partaking in a healthy and balanced diet.
