Who is JR Bourne?

David Bourne, known better as JR Bourne, was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 8 April 1970 – his zodiac sign is Aries, and he holds Canadian nationality. He’s an actor with over 100 credits to his name, perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Ray in the 2005 horror thriller movie “The Exorcism of Emily Rose”, written and directed by Scott Derrickson, and which starred Laura Linney, Tom Wilkinson and Shohreh Aghdashloo. It follows a lawyer who’s working on a case which involves a priest who had performed an exorcism, killing the girl Emily Rose; the movie won four of the 13 awards for which it was nominated.

Early life, siblings and education

JR was raised in Toronto alongside his sibling Kim Bourne MacGregor, by their parents about whom nothing’s known, as JR respects their privacy.

He became interested in acting when he was around five years old, mostly because he and his sister watched TV together nearly every night. JR was a member of his elementary school’s drama club, and appeared in various plays performed at the school; he was also quite sporting, and played both soccer and tennis.

JR attended a local high school in Toronto, at which he continued appearing in plays, and he was 16 when his drama teacher recommended him to his friend who was a theatre actor, and who then cast JR in his first theatre play.

He matriculated in 1988, and although he hasn’t spoken of his further education, it’s believed that JR enrolled at college, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in acting in 1992.

Roles in movies

JR made his debut film appearance with his portrayal of Steinar Eysteinnson, in the 1994 short drama “Porcaria”, and a couple of his following roles were in the  action science fiction thriller “Jungleground” and the  action thriller “The Final Goal” both in 1995, and the 1996 science fiction action drama “Past Perfect”.

He gained recognition in 2001, when cast to play Building 21 Guard in the popular action crime drama “Antitrust”, directed by Peter Howitt, and which starred Ryan Phillippe, Tim Robbins and Rachael Leigh Cook. The movie follows a computer programmer who has just begun working at a company in Portland, and has discovered that his boss is hiding a horrible secret; it won two of the six awards for which it was nominated.

The following years saw JR appear in a couple of popular movies, such as the 2001 fantasy horror “Thirt13en Ghosts”, the 2004 horror drama “Ginger Snaps Back: The Beginning”, and the 2005 horror science fiction thriller “Severed”.

In 2006, he portrayed Malcolm Williams in the evergreen science fiction thriller “The Butterfly Effect 2”, directed by John R. Leonetti, and which starred Eric Lively, Erica Durance and Dustin Milligan. The film follows Nick Larson who has figured out how to change his life by traveling back in time. JR had appeared in a couple of other popular movies by the end of the 2010s, such as the 2006 crime comedy “Everything’s Gone Green”, the 2008 drama “Run Rabbit Run”, and in the same year the adventure fantasy horror “The Lost Treasure of the Grand Canyon”.

His most notable performance in the 2010s was perhaps in the 2016 action fantasy drama “Prototype”, directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, and which starred Jack Davenport, Cote de Pablo and Annabelle Dexter-Jones. It follows three people who have accidentally invented a very dangerous device.

He made his debut TV series appearance in the 1995 episode “The Box” of the fantasy crime drama “Strange Luck”, and by the end of the ‘90s, JR had made guest appearances in an episode or two of various series, including the drama “Side Effects”, the action crime adventure “The Sentinel”, and the crime thriller “Two”.

In 2003, he played Marshall William Ataturk in two episodes of the popular action adventure drama “Andromeda”, created by Gene Roddenberry and Robert Hewitt Wolfe, and which starred Kevin Sorbo, Lisa Ryder and Laura Bertram. The series follows the crew of the spaceship Andromeda Ascendant, aired from 2000 to 2005, and won 17 of the 41 awards for which it was nominated. A couple of JR’s following roles were in the mystery crime drama “Cold Squad”, the action adventure drama “Stargate SG-1”, and the comedy drama “Godiva’s”.

In 2011, he was cast to play Isaac in the hit fantasy horror drama “The Secret Circle” by Andrew Miller, and which starred Thomas Dekker, Britt Robertson and Phoebe Tonkin. It follows the 16 years old Cassie Blake who has moved to Chance Harbor in Washington State, and has learned that she’s a witch; the series won one of the three awards for which it was nominated.

Three of JR’s most recent roles in TV series have been in 26 episodes of the mystery science fiction drama “The 100” in 2019 and 2020, seven episodes of the crime thriller drama “Mayans M. C.” in 2021, and four episodes of the comedy “On the Verge” in 2021.

In 2003, JR sang the song “You Cannot Choose” in the movie “On the Corner”.

JR won two Vancouver Film Critics Circle Awards for Best Supporting Actor in a Canadian Film in 2004 and 2007, for his performance in “On the Corner” and “Everything’s Gone Green”, respectively. He was also nominated for two Leo Awards in 2004 and 2007, for his performance in the same movies.

JR is highly secretive when it comes to his past and present relationships, and hasn’t spoken of any women or men whom he’s perhaps been with. This is mostly why there are rumors circulating the internet, the majority of which concern his sexual orientation.

Many of JR’s fans believe that the popular actor is gay, for multiple reasons: they claim that he hasn’t spoken of any girls whom he’s maybe dated, and hasn’t been seen spending time with any in public either. There’s a JR fan who has even claimed to have seen JR spending time with a man who might be his boyfriend, but no evidence has been provided to support this, nor has JR commented on the matter.

There are also those who believe that he’s today in a relationship with a girl, but prefers to keep her away from media; this is also unconfirmed.
