Jordan Cephus’s Father, Offset Short Bio

Kiari Kendrell Cephus, known professionally as Offset, was born on 14 December 1991 in Lawrenceville, Georgia, USA. His foray into the music industry began at the age of 11, when he worked as a backup dancer in Whitney Houston’s 2002 music video for “Whatchulookinat”. In 2008, Offset, alongside Quavo and Takeoff, co-founded the hip-hop group Migos, hailing from Gwinnett County, Georgia.

Migos gained initial recognition following the release of their 2013 single “Versace”. Their music resonated with the audience, leading to the release of their debut studio album, “Yung Rich Nation”, in 2015. The trio’s unique style and energetic performances contributed to their growing success.

In 2017, Migos reached new heights with the release of “Bad and Boujee”, which became an internet phenomenon. The track topped the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, propelling Migos into mainstream fame. Building on this success, in collaboration with Metro Boomin and 21 Savage, Offset released the album “Without Warning” in 2017, further solidifying their influence in the hip-hop scene.

Offset’s solo career gained momentum in 2018 with notable collaborations. His feature on Tyga’s “Taste” marked his first solo top-ten entry on the Billboard Hot 100. Another significant collaboration was with Kodak Black on “Zeze”, reaching No. 2 on the Hot 100. Demonstrating his versatility, Offset released his debut solo studio album, “Father of 4”, in February 2019, featuring the single “Clout” with Cardi B, earning him a Grammy Award nomination for Best Rap Performance.

Beyond music, Offset ventured into acting, making his debut in “NCIS: Los Angeles”.

In August 2019, he invested in the Esports organization FaZe Clan, expressing his love for gaming and belief in the future of Esports.

Legal issues have been a recurring theme in Offset’s life. In 2013, as Migos rose to prominence, Offset found himself incarcerated in Georgia’s DeKalb County Jail for violating probation linked to prior felony convictions for burglary and theft. The legal troubles escalated in 2015, when authorities halted a Migos concert, resulting in charges ranging from drug possession to firearm-related offenses.

After eight months in custody, Offset was released in December 2015 after accepting an Alford plea deal, multiple charges being dropped in exchange for pleading guilty to inciting a riot within a penal facility, paying a fine, serving probation, and facing banishment from specific counties.

Offset’s legal troubles continued in 2016, facing arrest for driving with a suspended license. In January 2018, he faced criticism for a line in YFN Lucci’s “Boss Life” with lyrics deemed homophobic. Offset publicly apologized, explaining that he did not intend to target the LGBT community and claiming a misunderstanding of the term “queer”. His wife, Cardi B, defended him, stating Offset’s lack of awareness regarding the term’s history.

In April 2019, he faced a felony charge for possessing three handguns and drugs from a previous 2018 arrest. Detained near a Donald Trump rally on 24 October 2020 for carrying a concealed weapon, Offset was swiftly released. Legal troubles continued into 2021, when he faced a lawsuit from Platinum Transportation Group, alleging non-return of a rented Bentley Bentayga, and cessation of rental payments.

Offset’s life took a tragic turn on 1 November 2022, with the fatal shooting of his cousin and Migos groupmate, Takeoff, which led to the postponement of Offset’s upcoming album release and the disbandment of Migos.

In July 2023, Offset returned to the music scene with the single “Jealousy”, a collaboration with Cardi B, and the lead single for his second studio album, “Set It Off”, released in October 2023. The album featured guest appearances from Travis Scott, Future, Latto, Young Nudy and others.

According to authoritative sources, Offset’s net worth is estimated at $28 million, as of late 2023.
