Born John Philip Morgridge on the 23rd July 1933, in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin USA, he is a businessman, best known to the world as a former CEO of Cisco Systems, a multinational conglomerate that manufactures and sells telecommunications equipment, networking hardware, and variety of other high-technology products.

John is one of three children born to L.D. Morgridge and his wife Ruth Gordon Morgridge, who both worked as teachers, and were also a part of the church. He grew up in his hometown with his brother Dean L. Morgridge, and sister Barbara. He went to Wauwatosa East High School, and during high school years, John held several odd jobs, including cleaning equipment in a cannery, as well as in Milwaukee’s Pabst Brewery, being involved in road construction on Highway 64, among several others. After high school, he enrolled at the University of Wisconsin from which he graduated in 1955, and two years later obtained an MBA degree from Stanford University.
After he finished his education, John found a job at Stratus Computer and Honeywell Information Systems. He held the position in the latter firm for several years but then left to join GRiD Systems, eventually as president and also as chief operating officer. He stayed in GRiD until 1988, when he left and joined Cisco, which at the time was only in its fourth year of existence, and only employing 34 people. He was subsequently named CEO and Chairman of the Board, serving in the former position until 1995, and in the latter until he retired in 2006. During his time at Cisco, the company expanded into 77 countries and as many as 50,000 employees. Thanks to his successful management, John’s wealth increased to a large degree.
Regarding his personal life, John has been married to Tashia Frankwurth since 1955; the couple had three children, however, their younger son died of leukemia, so now they have a son and daughter, and also six grandchildren.
John has been a popular member of the community, making donations to various causes and organizations; alongside his wife, John gave $175 million to create the Fund for Wisconsin Scholars, which is focused on improving education for low-income students who attend Wisconsin’s public colleges and universities.
