Kallen attended Schulze Elementary, and Mumford High School after that. Prior to her career in boxing management, she was a journalist and a publicist. Her career in the ‘70s was highlighted by many interviews she did with various celebrities, such as The Rolling Stones, Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra among many others. Interviewing the boxing prospect Thomas Hearns, Jackie became interested in sports and boxing in particular, so a career change was about to happen shortly after that. Getting interested in this field of entertainment, she went on to become a publicist for the man who caught her attention at first, Thomas Hearns. As the time went on, she became widely recognized in Detroit, but was continuously dealing with sexism throughout her career. Her new job wasn’t considered to be something a woman should do, but she nonetheless didn’t give up and continued working in that field, gaining public acclaim and recognition among the fans and simultaneously proving that her work was up to scratch.

Her publicist career was soon followed by her debut in boxing management. Her first client was Bobby Hitz in 1988, and three years after that Kallen was the manager of a boxing champion, James Tonney, the winner of the International Boxing Federation world middleweight title. Her career was at its peak when she met Bronco McKart and signed a contract with him, becoming his new manager. McKart went on to win the World Boxing Organization junior middleweight title in 1996. At this point, she was one of the most notable managers in the industry, and earned the title ‘’The First Lady of the Boxing’’. She was featured in many boxing magazines as someone who newcomers looked up to.

Jackie’s partnership with Toney eventually ended in the late ‘90s. As of her more recent past, Jackie became the manager for two new boxers and she still remains the manager of Bronco McKart. Her career as a producer is still in progress. In 2005 she was a producer of ‘’The Contender’’, a reality television series that follows a group of boxers who compete one against another. She made small appearances in two movies as well.

In her personal life, Kallen has been married once. She and her husband Gary were together for more than 20 years, but eventually divorced. She has two children from that marriage. She had a heart disease and cancer in the early 2000s, but she had a successful recovery and is healthy today. Jackie’s life story was the inspiration for ‘’Against the Ropes’’, a 2004 drama movie directed by Charles S. Dutton. Kallen was portrayed by Meg Ryan and she even made a small appearance in the movie.
