Jac Collinsworth is an American sports broadcaster, but perhaps known best as the son of the award-winning sports broadcaster Cris Collinsworth. Jac works at NBC Sports as a play-by-play announcer and a host.
Early life, family, educational background
Jac Collinsworth was born on 13 February 1995, in Fort Thomas, Kentucky USA; his mother, Holly Bankemper Collinsworth is an attorney, while his father, Chris Collinsworth, is a former professional American Football player in the National Football League (NFL). After his retirement, he became a sports broadcaster, working for networks such as Showtime, NBC, and the NFL Network. He won multiple awards as a football player, and received 17 Sports Emmy Awards as a broadcaster. He also owns the majority of shares of Pro Football Focus (PFF) which is the platform that offers sports analysis.
Jac has three siblings: Katie Collinsworth Hughes, Austin Collinsworth, and Ashley Collinsworth. Katie is a marketing specialist who has two children with Patrick Hughes. Austin used to play football like his father, but currently he’s the Chief Operating Officer at PFF, while Ashley is the producer at MRI Online.
Jac studied at Highlands High School, producing videos and playing football. After matriculating in 2013, he enrolled at the University of Notre Dame, Indiana USA, and during his studies, he created and hosted a digital series entitled ND Live, providing viewers with coverage of Notre Dame football team events. He graduated in 2017 with a degree in Film, Television, and Theatre.
Career
Jac began his career journey as a sports broadcaster right after he matriculated from high school, working at NBC Sports in 2013 as a member of the sideline production of Fighting Irish games – the University of Notre Dame football team. He continued taking tasks at the network on and off-camera until 2017. In 2016 and 2017, he was also a sideline reporter, covering the Notre Dame Blue-Gold spring games for NBC Sports. In 2016, he was the first social media correspondent for NBC Olympics, covering the 2016 Rio Olympics in the scope of the show “Olympic Late Night with Ryan Seacrest”.
After graduating, Jac started working at ESPN, covering the gaming seasons of the NFL. He quickly climbed up the career ladder thanks to his distinctive approach to interviews that he held with prominent players and coaches. Soon he became the features reporter, and a host of the show “Sunday NFL Countdown”. In 2018, he became the anchor of “NFL Live” which is one of the most famous football shows on the network, as it offers NFL news and insights. After a year, Jac started hosting the signature football show “The Huddle”, aired on ACC Network owned by ESPN.

Collinsworth left ESPN in 2020 and returned to NBC, this time acquiring a more serious role and hosting “Distance Training: Ready to Get Back in the Game”, a digital series that provided insight into the physical and mental training of professional athletes. In 2021, he was the reporter for the annual Kentucky Derby horse race.
Throughout his career as a sportscaster, Jac has covered the Olympics several times, with the most recent assignment being the 2022 Beijing Games which included hosting the show on USA Network. In February 2022, he was a co-host of the “Super Bowl LVI Pregame Show” on NBC.
As of late 2022, Collinsworth is a play-by-play announcer of Notre Dame Football on NBC Sports, with Jason Garrett who serves as the analyst, as well as Atlantic 10 college basketball games. He is also the co-host of the show “Football Night in America”, and is occasionally seen in the show “Peacock Sunday Night Football Final”.
The young reporter is frequently criticized for being underqualified, with fans stating that he achieved success through his father’s connection to NBC. After his first match as a Notre Dame play-by-play announcer, he was criticized for a ‘disappointing’ performance. However, Jac doesn’t seem to be bothered by such remarks, and continues doing his job in his usual manner.
