Ice-T was raised by a single father since his mom died from a heart attack before he was 10, but his father died when he was 12, and he lived with relatives including in  Los Angeles, where he acquired his nickname at school from his cool way of reciting verse, but joined the criminal side of the city, stealing, and selling marijuana in order to make money, but then applied for a position in the United States Army to support his girlfriend and daughter. It was in the army that Ice-T became interested in music, particularly hip hop and rap.

When he left army, Ice-T found a job as a disc jockey but seeing as he was more successful as a rapper, he began to pursue a career in that direction. Ice-T’s professional career begins in 1982 with the release on an underground hit single “Cold Wind Madness”. Even though the song was inappropriate to air on the radio due to its lyrics, Ice-T became known locally. After many try-outs, Ice-T was finally signed to the record label called Sire Records, and managed to release his debut album “Rhyme Pays”, and such a successful start granted Ice-T an opportunity to become a well-known artist. Ice-T went on to record what is now considered to be one of the primary examples of gangsta rap music – “O.G. Original Gangsta” – which was followed by “Home Invasion” and three more solo projects. Open to collaborations, Ice-T has been teaming up with such bands as “Body Count”, “Slayer” and “Black Sabbath” to work on joint albums.

In addition to his rapping, Ice-T is a well-known actor. Since a minor role in a breakdancing-themed film “Break Dance” in 1984, Ice-T has been actively partaking in that part of the  entertainment industry. Some of his better known appearances include “Tank Girl” with Lori Petty, “The Wrecking Crew” with Snoop Dogg and “3000 Miles to Graceland” with Kevin Costner and Kurt Russell. His net worth has benefited too.

Ice-T is also noted for his TV appearances – in 2006 the reality television show “Ice-T’s Rap School” premiered on VH1 – a spin-off from a similar British reality show “Gene Simmons’ Rock School” – in which Ice-T teaches teens called the “York Prep Crew”.

In his personal life, aside from the previously-mentioned relationship with Adrianne in the ’70s, Ice-T had a son with Darlene Ortiz in 1992. Ice-T married model Nicole “Coco Marie” Austin in 2002, and they had a daughter in 2015.
