“Street Outlaws” is an American reality television show, that documents the world of allegedly illegal street racing, focusing on the lives of several drivers as they compete for the number one spot to be crowned King of the Streets.

The show is primarily filmed in Oklahoma, and all the featured stars and racers in “Street Outlaws” are native to the state, though from time to time, they might enter into competition with other states.

Like many other reality shows, “Street Outlaws” have been discredited for being scripted, and while this might be true, the competition behind all the racing events is still seemingly honest and brutal.

For the most part, “Street Outlaws” apparently became more scripted simply so that the production company behind the series would not be implicated in any illegal activity, but the drama between the racers remained realistic, and the racing events continued to stay true to their competitive nature.

The series first aired on Discovery Channel in 2013, and following a popular reception among audiences, the show produced a total of sixteen seasons over nearly a decade. “Street Outlaws” popularity even afforded it numerous spin-off shows, and it remains one of Discovery Channel’s most loved and watched franchises, especially among high-octane fanatics and the many motorsport shows currently airing on the channel.

Although the original series seems to be cancelled, the high-octane action continues in all of the newly awaited releases from the many spin-off series, and fans of the outlaws can feel free to catch up on the latest competitions.

Among the new premieres of 2022, new seasons for “Street Outlaws: OKC”, “Street Outlaws: Farmtruck and AZN”, and “Street Outlaws: Fastest in America” aired in their respective time slots, all of them providing fans with more drama, and just as much tire-burning action.

Over the many years that “Street Outlaws” graced our screens, the show earned many of its featured racers fame and stardom, and every viewer most likely has a favourite among the long list of competitors.

Some of the bigger names in the show include Big Chief, Daddy Dave, Chuck, and Ryan Martin, but another top competitor, mononymously known as “Monza”, grabbed the attention of viewers for both his mysterious personality as well as his success with the series.

Jerry “Monza” Johnston, who currently occupies the number seven spot on The List of top 10 drivers, has been appearing in “Street Outlaws” since its first season aired in 2013, earning a huge following among fanatics.

However, his most recent performances had people questioning his skills as a driver, and had fans wondering how he’s doing today.

Who Is Jerry “Monza” Johnston?

Jerry is one of “Street Outlaws” most mysterious racers, as few details of his personal life can be found anywhere, and the reality television star rarely engages in interviews, but for viewers of the show, Monza is one of the best-known competitors.

As viewers would know, he’s a quiet man of few words, but is never reluctant to challenge his competition as soon as they begin trash-talking.

Due to his quiet and patient manners, Jerry is recognised as one of the calmest racers in the show and has proven his disposition to be the cutting edge with which he competes. Being always calm and collected behind the steering wheel, Johnston developed the ability to make calculated decisions in a matter of moments, which especially helps him to gain an edge over his competition during critical moments, and this skill very often earned him victory on the racing circuits.

Of course, many might say that his skills as a driver developed over the many years that he’s competed in street racing, and that his quiet nature might be influenced by all the experience he accumulated over the three decades.

While little information about Monza is available, he’s known as one of the tallest competitors in “Street Outlaws”, standing a solid 6ft 4ins (1.95m), thanks to which, Jerry certainly seems to be one of the most intimidating drivers on the racing scene. Despite his towering figure, Johnston is one of the friendliest racers, who hasn’t been involved in quite as many rivalries, disputes, or dramas as many of the other racers.

While this might be because he tends to keep to himself, Jerry relies more on his driving to do the talking, since his pitch-black 1972 Camaro Rally Sport can be as intimidating as himself.

While it’s not known when exactly Jerry entered the local racing circuit, many people know that he’s been racing in the streets for nearly his whole life. Even before earning his place on the list of top drivers from Oklahoma, Jerry earned a reputation as a fierce competitor, and many of the local racers in the state awaited his rivalry.

According to most reports about Jerry, he’s as capable in the workshop as on the streets.

Jerry earned his nickname “Monza” from the car he previously raced, a Chevrolet Monza, though little information about the car can be found. Nonetheless, both Jerry and his Monza earned a reputation on the streets of Oklahoma as over the many years of racing, Johnston earned the number one spot on numerous occasions.

Unfortunately, Jerry wrote off his Monza in an accident, having since replaced it with his famous jet-black Camaro, with which he’s been dusting out the competition.

However, in spite of his previous records, Jerry’s performances in recent years showed a lack of his former dominance, though many suspect it might be due to a change in vehicles, but because of this, Johnston dropped to overall seventh position. While he still competes in the racing events hosted in Oklahoma, it’s clear to see that the racing veteran might be losing his edge, though nonetheless, he remains a fierce competitor in “Street Outlaws”.

Although little is known about his personal life, it’s common knowledge that Jerry is as much a family man as he is a racer. Monza tied the knot with his wife Tammy in 1986, and together they’ve raised two children, son Brandon and daughter Brittani, who both now young adults, though little is really known about them.

Other than what might be considered common knowledge about Monza, little other information could be dug up about the reality television star, and it seems as if he’s lived a quiet life.

Monza’s Accident and Life Since

During the filming of the eleventh season of “Street Outlaws” in July 2018, Monza became involved in an accident, which occurred during a tense race against Chuck Seitsinger, when Jerry lost control of his own car and nearly collided with Chuck’s car. Luckily, the collision was prevented, but Monza veered off the road and into a ditch, subsequently rolling the car multiple times.

The unfortunate accident left the entire crowd in shock, and many feared the worse for Jerry. Fortunately, he was able to pull himself from the wreckage and sustained only minor cuts and bruises, much to the relief of the spectators, viewers, and of course Johnston’s family.

While Monza survived the wreck, sadly the same couldn’t be said about his car, which was almost completely wrecked. Although it wasn’t beyond repair, Jerry chose to scrap it, and began building a new car with which to race in the streets.

Jerry may have lost the race against Chuck that day, but fortunately he didn’t lose his life. While it was quite dramatic, the incident was certainly proof that street racing held its fair share of dangers, and that there are substantial reasons why it’s supposedly illegal.

Despite the scare, Jerry didn’t back away from the competitive sport of street racing, and in no time he was back on the drag, competing for the number one spot. Although he faced some challenges with his new car, subsequently dropping to seventh spot on The List of top drivers, Monza continues to be fierce competition.

Although it’s been a while since he held the number one spot, it doesn’t seem that Jerry is giving up his place in “Street Outlaws” anytime soon. As such, fans can expect to see him in any new upcoming episodes of the show, and its spin-offs.
