Guy Fisher Net Worth

Date:

$10,000

Guy Thomas Fisher was born in 1947, in the South Bronx, New York City USA, and was a businessman and racketeer, best known to be part of the crime organization called “The Council”, a notorious African-American organization that controlled heroin during the 1970s and the early 1980s. All of his endeavors helped put his net worth to where it is today.

How rich is Guy Fisher? As of late-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $10,000, mostly reduced due to his sentence of life imprisonment. The time spent in prison has slowly decreased his net worth, though previously Guy was one of the richest people in Harlem. He was the first black man to operate the Apollo Theater, but his imprisonment ensured the position of his wealth.

Fisher grew up with an abusive father who spent money on addictions. When he got older, the father left the family, and he then found notoriety in (literally) fighting other people. Eventually, he was put to Elmyra Reformatory, serving two years on an assault charge. After finishing his sentence there, he dropped out of high school and then started to look for work of any kind. He would then be put in touch with drug kingpin Leroy “Nicky” Barnes, who took him under his wing, and he became part of the seven member circle called “The Council”. Each member had their own crew that could distribute heroin throughout the city.

While the heroin trade of “The Council” would help Guy’s net worth increase dramatically, he was already on the authorities’ radar because of numerous violations.

This culminated in 1984, when he was charged with multiple counts of a variety of violations, which included continuing criminal conspiracy, murder, and drug trafficking. He was eventually sentenced to life in prison without any parole eligibility. The case against him was further solidified when his mentor, Barnes testified against him. He was tried and convicted on multiple counts of racketeering, with the prosecution for the case being handled by future New York mayor Rudolph Giuliani. During their prime, both Barnes and Fisher were considered kingpins of the drug industry; they had many underlings, and were even feared by the police because of their power.

Barnes testimony began 11 months after his incarceration, when he agreed to become a government informant to testify against the others who were involved in the trade. According to him, he testified because he discovered that Fisher was having an affair with his mistress. His cooperation with the government led him to become part of the federal Witness Protection Program. Later on, a documentary was released entitled “The Guy Fisher Story”. His story was also featured in the series “American Gangster”.

For his personal life, it is known that Fisher has completed a PhD in Sociology while imprisoned. His nephew is basketball player Corey Fisher who is known to be the winner of the “6th Man of the Year” Award in the Big East during 2009. His son, Jibriel Dubignon also known as G.Fisher, is a rap artist under DITC Ent – there is no information on the son’s mother. Fisher is currently serving his lifetime sentence at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona.
