Fernando Colunga is a Mexican actor, best known to the world for appearances in many Mexican telenovelas, such as “La Usurpadora” (1998), in which he portrayed Carlos Daniel Bracho, and as Luis Gustavo Uribe Del Valle in the TV series “Nunca Te Olvidare” (1999), while he is also known for his work in films, such as “Besame En La Boca” (1995), and “Ladron Que Roba a Ladron” (2007), among numerous roles that he’s secured in his career.

Fernando Colunga Biography: Age, Childhood, and Education

Fernando Colunga Olivares was born on 3 March 1966, in Mexico City, Distrito Federal, Mexico, the son of Fernando Colunga Sr. and Margarita Olivares. The son of engineers, Fernando himself earned a degree in civil engineering, and following graduation started work at a hardware store.

However, unhappy at his day job, he signed up for a couple of acting jobs and made his debut as a stuntman in the soap opera “Dulce Desafio” for Eduardo Yanez in 1988.

He became interested in acting as a professional career, and started taking acting lessons at the Centro de Educacion Artistica de Televisa in 1990.

Career Beginnings

Following his debut as a stuntman, Fernando started by appearing in minor roles in such telenovelas as “La Telarana” (1990), “Alcanzar Una Estrella II” (1991), and then in 1992, he was chosen for the role of Chicho in the telenovela “Maria Mercedes”, with Thalia, Arturo Peniche, and Carmen Salinas in the lead roles.

He starred in 59 episodes of the popular drama, then in 1994 joined the cast of the TV series “Marimar” as Adrian Rosales, followed in 1995 and ‘96 as Luis Fernando de la Vega in the telenovela “Humble Maria”.

Rise to Prominence

Fernando was making huge steps forward in his career, and in 1997 he joined Leticia Calderon to complete the main cast of the telenovela “Esmeralda”, which was named the Best Telenovela of the Year by Premios TVyNovelas.

The success of the series launched him to stardom, and Fernando continued with lead roles in Mexican telenovelas. In 1998 he starred as Carlos Daniel Bracho in all 102 episodes of “La Usurpadora” alongside Gabriela Spanic, and as Libertad Lamarque, among other stars of the popular series. His next role was as Luis Gustavo Uribe Del Valle in the telenovela “Nunca Te Olvidare” (1999), co-starring alongside Edith Gonzalez, and started the new millennium with the role of Carlos Manuel Rivero in the telenovela “Abrazame Muy Fuerte”, starring with Victoria Ruffo and Aracely Arambula.

In 2003 he portrayed Manuel Fuentes Guerra, the bastard son of a rich landowner. in the telenovela “Amor Real”, co-starring Adela Noriega, and from 2005 to 2006 he was Luis Manrique y Arellano in the telenovela “Alborada”, and between 2007 and 2008 had a double role of Ricardo de Salamanca y Almonte “El Antillano”/Ricardo López de Carbajal in the telenovela “Pasion”, co-starring Susana Gonzalez and Daniela Castro.

Fernando continued in the same rhythm, and before the end of the 2000s, Fernando had another double role as Eduardo Juarez Cruz / Franco Santoro in the telenovela “Manana Es Para Siempre” (2008-2009), then in 2010 he was Jose Miguel Montesinos in all 128 episodes of the popular telenovela “Soy to Duena”.

He was active on screen until the mid- 2010s, starring in several other telenovelas, including “Porque El Amor Manda” (2012-2013), and “Passion y Poder” (2015-2016), co-staring Jorge Salinas and Susana Gonzalez.

Work in Theater

In addition to his work on screen, Fernando has worked in theater as well. He made his debut in 1998 in the play “Original Sin Not” in which he starred with Chantal Andere an unhappy married couple.

He has also worked with Cesar Evora on adapting screenplays for theater, and would then tour Mexico with the play “Trap de Muerte”.
