Eric B spent his childhood in his hometown, where he was raised by his parents. Other information about his early life is unknown in the media.

Speaking about his career, as a sixteen-year-old teenager, Eric was already employed as a mobile DJ at WBLS radio station in New York City. He ws already a proficient musician, playing instruments such as the guitar, trumpet and drums. The radio station was the place where he met Rakim Allah, and soon they started their collaboration by forming a hip hop duo called Eric B. & Rakim in 1986. Subsequently, they released their debut single entitled “Eric B. Is President”, which reached No. 48 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. In the following year, they released their second single “My Melody”, both helping establish Eric’s net worth.

After their successful beginning, the duo started to collaborate with 4th And Broadway dance label, through which they released their debut studio album “Paid In Full” in 1987. The album achieved enormous success, peaking at No. 8 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, and was also certified platinum by RIAA, which helped add a considerable amount to his net worth. The next year, Eric and Rakim released their second studio album entitled “Follow The Leader”, which achieved gold certification and reached No. 7 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.

The duo’s greatest success came in 1989, when they released with Jody Watley the single “Friends”, which became one of the top ten pop singles on the Billboard Hot 100, peaking at No. 3 on the Hot Black Singles chart and No. 7 on the Hot Dance Club Play chart, which increased Eric’s net worth by a large margin.

To speak further about his career as a part of the duo, they released two more studio albums – “Let The Rhythm Hit” (1990), certified gold by RIAA, and “Sweat The Technique” (1992) – both of which were top ten albums on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, which also contributed to Eric’s wealth.

However, when they finished these two projects, they agreed to pursue further their careers in the music industry as solo musicians in 1993. Two years later, Eric B released his debut self-titled studio album, through his own 95th Street record label, again increasing his net worth.

However, after 20 years not working together, Eric B and Rakim reunited in 2017 and started performing together in New York’s Apollo Theatre, marking the 30th anniversary of their “Paid In Full” album.

Regarding Eric B’s personal life, there is little information in the media about it, although he does have a daughter – Starr Barrier. He is active in his spare time on his official Twitter account.
