Emilio went to the Lakefield College School in Ontario, Canada, after which he enrolled at the Universidad Iberoamericana, but studied there for only five semesters.

He then become involved in the family business, and little by little began increasing his net worth. However, when he was 29 his father died, and Emilio inherited the company, becoming its owner, Chairman and CEO. At the time he inherited the company, it was near bankruptcy, however, he managed to turnaround Televisa, to promote it into being the most successful media company in Mexico, and in Latin America on the whole.
