From an early age Dejounte was drawn to basketball, and once in Rainer Beach High School started playing on a competitive level for the basketball team. After four successful years, Dejounte committed to play basketball for the University of Washington. However, he played only one season for the Washington Huskies, in 34 games averaging 16.1 points, 4.4 assists and 5.9 rebounds, which earned him several awards, including Washington Mr. Basketball, and Second-team All-Pac-12 selection, while he was also named Parade All-American.

Following an extremely successful season, Dejounte declared for the 2016 NBA Draft, and was selected by the San Antonio Spurs as the 29th overall pick. He signed his rookie scale contract on the 14th July, thus becoming a professional basketball player.

He made his debut for the Spurs in the third game of the 2016-2017 season, playing nine minutes in a victory over the New Orleans Pelicans; though scoreless, Dejounte had two rebounds and one assist. As the season progressed, Dejounte was given more playing time, which helped his self-esteem and resulted in better performances. He scored a then career-high 24 points on the 19th January 2017, against the Denver Nuggets, and became the youngest player in the franchise history to score at least 24 points, displacing Tony Parker. However, his inconsistency cost him better numbers and more games with the Spurs and in order to progress, he spent some time in the NBA D league, playing for the Austin Spurs. He finished his rookie season with 3.4 points per game, with 1.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds. In the post-season, Dejounte became the starting point guard for the Spurs as Tony Parker was ruled out due to a leg injury. As a result, Dejounte’s numbers improved, with 5.7 points, 2.5 assists and 2.5 rebounds per game, including posting a double-double against the Houston Rockets in the sixth game of the series, with 11 points and 10 rebounds, becoming only the fourth rookie in Spurs history with that achievement, joining the greats Tim Duncan, David Robinson and Kawhi Leonard.

For the 2017-2018 season, Dejounte was named starting point guard, and in the first game of the new season scored 16 points, while adding two assists and five rebounds to his name in a Spurs victory against the Minnesota Timberwolves. He continued with good performances, becoming one of the best players in the squad over the course of the new season. So far, he has played in 63 games, 30 of which were starts, and in 20 minutes average on the court, Dejounte has helped his team with 7.5 points, 2.8 assists and 5.4 rebounds per game, in the process joining Kawhi Leonard with 500 points and 300 rebounds in his first 100 games for the Spurs.

When it comes to his personal life, Dejounte is in a romantic relationship with professional ballet dancer, singer and actress, Jilly Anais Moor, the winner of the Miss Teen Houston pageant in 2009.
