David was born into a poor family and had a poor upbringing, which led to him moving around and even spending time in motels and houses of friends while growing up. After graduating from high school, he relocated to New York City and tried his hand at a lawn care company before enrolling in Emerson College. There he met John Ennis and the two would propel each other into the acting and comedy scene. He dropped-out of Emerson after a semester and became part of the comedy club Catch a Rising Star which featured prominent comedians. He continued to make a name for himself and would later be heard on radio programs including “The Last Run” and “A Hearing”. He continues working in stand-up and released comedy specials for both HBO and Comedy Central.

His first work on television came as a writing job for “The Ben Stiller Show”. Despite being put in the show nearing its end, he became part of sketches and made appearances which would win him an Emmy. He would then create the series “Mr. Show” in 1995. Afterwards, David was given the chance to be part of “Arrested Development” and then later found other opportunities such as “The Colbert Report”, “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” (, and “The Drew Carey Show”. He worked on the film called “Run Ronnie Run”, but issues forced it to be released straight to video.

Cross has also used his voice for video games, helping the production of big titles including “Halo 2” and “Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas”. He then made appearances in music videos such as “Juicebox”, “Use It”, and “Sugarcube.” Eventually he would get the chance to become part of the “Alvin and the Chipmunks” franchise, and would then write his first book called “I Drink For A Reason”. By 2014, he had his first chance at being director in the film “Hits” which was one of the first films to be distributed via Bit Torrent. As of today, Cross still works on new comedy shows, and does stand-up performances.

For his personal life, it is known that David married Amber Tamblyn in 2012, an actress 19 years younger than him. He also mentioned that he was raised Jewish but is now an atheist. He’s been the topic of criticisms and has also clashed with other comedians as well, including Larry the Cable Guy and James Lipton.
