Chingo was raised in Houston, Texas, USA by his parents – hard working Mexican emigrants, trying to achieve the American dream. Since the early years, Chingo turned to music, especially listening to Spanish versions of 50s rock played by his parents at a young age, and later rap via his two older sisters. Chingo attended Peddie School in Hightstown, New Jersey and afterwards enrolled at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas from which he graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration Marketing.

Chingo Bling made his first steps towards the music industry in his senior college year, as a DJ at frat parties and later in the Sunday evening mix show on college radio station. Chingo’s first mixtape came in 2001, “Duro En La Pintura” meaning Hard in the Paint, and it made some real success in the underground rap scene. Soon after, his second mixtape, “El Mero Chingon” was released. In the beginning, he sold his music at local stores and flea markets from the back of his trunk. The real break through in Chingo’s career came when he appeared in the Power 106’s Pocos Pero Locos show in Los Angeles, after which his debut LP album was released in 2004 under his own label, Big Chile Enterprises, named “The Tamale Kingpin”. In the first few weeks, it sold over 10,000 copies, providing the basis for his net worth.

By the release of “Chingo Bling 4 President”, his second studio album, in 2005, he was already considered a regional star. His success gained some attention, including MTV and Telemundo features. He has also expanded his business as Big Chile Enterprises, or Big Chile Records as it is often referred to, started selling merchandise including t-shirts, bobble-head dolls and DVDs, even hot sauce and tamales, adding to his overall net worth.

His independence and “unique lyrical” abilities caught the eye of Asylum Records (owned by Warner Music Group) in 2006, and Chingo signed an $80 million distribution deal. His national debut album “They Can’t Deport Us All” came in 2007, rising tensions in national conservative circles – Chingo even received several death threats and his father’s tamale truck was vandalized, shot at and later stolen. In total, Chingo Bling has released four studio albums so far, of which the most recent was the 2009 “Me Vale Madre.”

Apart from his music career, Chingo is making efforts towards acting. In 2012 he appeared in the indie film “Filly Brown”. These ventures have certainly increased his popularity as well as his fortune.
