Belinda was born into a large family, the eldest of seven children. When she was five years old, her father abandoned the family and when her mother re-married, she didn’t have a close relationship with her stepfather. Belinda started to pursue a career in music and became part of the punk rock band the Germs as their drummer. She used the name Dottie Danger, and also did back-up vocals for Black Randy and the Metrosquad. After leaving the Germs, she co-founded the Misfits who would later become known as the Go-Go’s, with original band members including Jane Wiedlin, Elissa Bello, and Margot Olavarria. After Bello and Olavarria left the group, Charlotte Caffey joined the band along with Kathy Valentine and Gina Schock. They became very popular during the 1980s and were the first all-female band to write their own music, achieving a number one album entitled “Beauty and the Beat”.
