Asante Samuel Net Worth $12 Million

Asante Samuel grew up in Florida where he went to Boyd H. Anderson High School in Lauderdale Lakes. During his high school days, Samuel started playing as a quarterback, recording 1,800 passing yards and 500 rushing yards. However, Asante concentrated more on defense in his senior year, and finished it with 75 tackles and four interceptions to win All-State honours.

He later studied at the University of Central Florida where he majored in business, and played football with the UCF Knights. Samuel contributed to the special teams in kickoff and punt returns, and he recorded 127 tackles, eight interceptions, and set the school’s record for most passes deflected – 38.

The New England Patriots selected him as the 120th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL Draft. Already in his rookie season, Samuel got the opportunity to be a starter in place of the injured duo Ty Law and Tyrone Poole, and started as a cornerback in Super Bowl XXXIX and won the championship after the Patriots defeated the Carolina Panthers 32-29 in one of the most exciting Super Bowl games in history. Samuel recorded 34 tackles, two interceptions and one touchdown in 16 games.

In the next two seasons, Samuel combined for 90 tackles, three forced fumbles, three interceptions, and one touchdown. He also won another Super Bowl medal in 2004 when New England beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21, becoming the first team to secure the consecutive titles since the Denver Broncos in 1997 and 1998. The 2006 season was tremendous for Samuel as he recorded a career best ten interceptions which were enough to tie him with Denver’s Champ Bailey at the top of the most interceptions list for the year. The following season, Asante didn’t repeat the same numbers, and got an invitation to his first Pro Bowl, and would continue to participate in the game until 2010, four years in a row. His net worth was very healthy.

Despite signing a new contract worth $7.79 million over one year, which only added to his net worth, and the franchise tag the Patriots put on him, Samuel left New England at the end of the 2007 season, in which the Patriots reached the Super Bowl but lost to the New York Giants 17-14. Asante became a highly valued free agent, and the Philadelphia Eagles were the fastest to secure his services with a six-year $56 million contract. His first season with the Eagles wasn’t very impressive, but in 2009 and 2010, Asante had monster years with 66 combined tackles and 16 interceptions. In 2009, he led the NFL in interceptions, achieved for the second time in his career.
In 2012, the Eagles traded Samuel to the Atlanta Falcons for a seventh-round draft pick, and his first season in Atlanta was a solid one with 36 tackles, five interceptions, and a touchdown. However, his numbers drastically dropped the following year, and the Falcons weren’t interested in re-signing him for another season. They released him in February 2014, and Samuel decided to retire soon after. In his 12 seasons in the NFL, Samuel recorded 433 tackles, 51 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, six touchdowns, and 146 passes defended in 157 games.

Regarding his personal life, Asante Samuel has been married to Jeniva Barrett since 2012, and has a son from a previous relationship who also plays football and is currently playing defensive back at St. Thomas Aquinas in Florida. He should graduate in 2018, and the top college programs are already interested in recruiting Asante Samuel Jr.
