Of Nigerian ancestry, Alex had a tough childhood; he never met his father, and his mother wasn’t around for almost eight years as she was in Nigeria. His childhood was marked by him living in youth foster homes with Caucasian parents.
He turned to music for his comfort, and listened to such artists as Kool and the Gang, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Otis Redding and James Brown among others, which inspired him to try himself as a musician. However, that didn’t happen until his late teens; he was working in a McDonald’s in London when he came into contact with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, joining the church and being baptized a short time later.
