Albert is one of the fraternal twins born to Albert Belle Sr., and his wife Carrie Belle. Albert grew up in his hometown and went to Huntington High School, where he excelled in baseball and football, and was also a part of the National Honor Society. He flourished during high school in baseball, and was called for the Junior Olympics by the USA national team, leading the team to a silver medal.

Following high school matriculation, Albert enrolled at Louisiana State University on a baseball scholarship; he was offered scholarships from other universities, including the University of Notre Dame.

He played as an outfielder for the Louisiana State University team from 1985 until 1987 and amassed 194 hits, 49 home runs, 30 doubles, 157 runs, 172 runs batted in, and a .332 batting average in 184 games in which he played. He was selected as the 1st team All-SEC two times, in 1986, and 1987, and was the MVP of the South 1 Regional Tournament in 1986.

After successful years in college, Albert declared for the MLB Draft in 1988 and was selected by the Cleveland Indians. He joined the first team in 1989, but until 1993 he didn’t make an impact on Cleveland matches. Then from 1993 until the end of his stint in Cleveland, he became one of the best players of the franchise, as he made four All-Star appearances, and won four Silver Slugger Awards, while he also became the AL home run leader in 1995. Albert posted several records, and led the league in doubles, slugging percentage, and becoming the first player to hit 50 HR and 50 Doubles, among other achievements.

In 1996 he became a free agent, and signed a contract with the Chicago White Sox, worth $55 million over five years which made him the highest-paid player in the league, and significantly increased Belle’s net worth. While in Chicago, Albert continued with great plays, however, his disagreements with White Sox officials resulted in him being released from the club.

Nevertheless, Albert soon found a new baseball engagement, signing a five-year contract with the Baltimore Orioles worth $65 million, which only further increased his wealth. Unfortunately, after only two seasons with the Orioles, he was forced to retire, due to degenerative hip osteoarthritis, at 34 years of age. Albert ended his career with a .295 batting average, 381 home runs, and 1,239 runs batted in.

Although a successful baseball player, his career was overshadowed by several controversies, including a corked bat, and several rage outbursts on his teammates and media representatives as well. This cost him an MVP award in the mid- ‘90s, and later a Hall of Fame induction.

Regarding his personal life, Albert has been married to Melissa Belle since 2005; the couple has four children together.
