Adam attended New Caney High School in Texas, where he played football as a quarterback. After matriculation, the Cincinnati Reds drafted him as the 50th overall pick in the 1998 MLB draft, however, he didn’t play major league baseball until 2001, instead enrollingd at the University of Texas, Austin, where he played as a backup quarterback to Major Applewhite.
