Who is Sophia Ali?

An actress with over 30 acting credits to her name, Sophia Ali is probably known best for her role as Doctor Dahlia Qadri in the romantic drama series “Grey’s Anatomy”, which follows the story of the professional and personal lives of the medical staff at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Besides the aforementioned role, Sophia was seen in numerous TV series and movies, and one of her most notable was her portrayal of Fatin Jadmani in the series “The Wilds”.

Early life, family, and education

Born Sophia Taylor Ramsey Ali under the zodiac sign of Scorpio on 7 November 1995, in San Diego, California USA, being just ten days old, Sophia flew with her mother to Dubai, United Arab Emirates where their family lived until Sophia turned four. The family then moved to Texas USA, where she spent most of her childhood. She was raised by her parents who are of Pakistani descent, but whose names and professions she hasn’t shared, as she respects their privacy.

Sophia has two siblings, Kamran and Shan, who also tried their luck in the entertainment industry as actors, but subsequently chose different careers.

Sophia made her acting debut playing Sophia Al Sabih in two episodes of the 2003 series “K Street”, then  followed with uncredited roles in the children’s series “Barney: Let’s Make Music” and “Barney & Friends” in 2006.

Sophia made an appearance as Tasha in an episode of the series “Shake It Up” in 2010, followed by her guest role as Samantha Downey in the popular crime-drama series “CSI: Miami” in 2011. In the following years, she had guest roles in “Melissa & Joey” (2012) and “Tyrant” (2014) before she was cast to play Sabrina in the 2016 series “Faking It”.

This was a significant role for Sophia since the romantic comedy-drama was quite popular among teenagers. It followed the story of two best friends who wanted to be famous, and after numerous attempts, decide to come out as lesbians. The series won the Teen Choice Award for Breakout Show.

In the following year, Sophia debuted as Doctor Dahlia Qadri in “Grey’s Anatomy”, and from 2017 through 2019 was seen in 27 episodes of this long-running sitcom. It began airing in 2005 and had 244 award nominations, winning 85, including four Primetime Emmys.

Concurrently Sophia was seen as Parvati in “The Mindy Project” (2017), as Alexis in “The Mick” (2018), and that same year, she portrayed Joanie in “Famous in Love”.

From 2020 through 2022, Sophie played Fatin Jadmani in “The Wilds”, a mystery adventure drama about a group of teens who must survive on a deserted island after their plane crashed. Sophia starred opposite Rachel Griffits and Shannon Berry, and the series was nominated for the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series.

Concurrently, Sophia voiced the character of Khushy in the animated series “Mira, Royal Detective” (2021-2022).

Roles in movies

Sophia made her big-screen debut as Kid in the 2007 movie “Missionary Man”, written, directed by and starring Dolph Lundgren. In the following year, she had a supporting role as a Girl in “The Longshots”, a biographic drama, starring Ice Cube and Keke Palmer.

Sophia followed with her role as Brooklyn in the 2015 movie “The Walking Deceased”, which was poorly rated by the audience. Next, she was cast to play Beverly’s Roommate in the 2016 comedy “Everybody Wants Some!!”, staring Blake Jenner, Ryan Guzman, and Tyler Hoechlin, which had 17 award nominations and won two, including the Internet Film Critic Society Award for Best Comedy.

Later that year, Sophia portrayed Brooke in the teenage comedy “Mono”, followed by her role as Faith Jackson in the 2017 comedy thriller “Bad Kids of Crestview Academy”, which was her first lead role. The movie had no nominations, but the audience reviews said that it had cool effects and good production quality, although the story was convoluted.

Sophia was next seen as Penelope Amari in the 2018 horror “Truth or Dare”, also starring Tyler Posey and Lucy Hale, followed by her role as Cam in the 2019 short movie “How’s the World Treating You?”, which she also wrote. The movie had no nominations, but the audience rated it 7.8/10.

In the 2021 comedy “India Sweets and Spices”, Sophia played the lead role of Alia Kapur, who returns home from college and discovers lies and secrets in her parent’s past, and is now trying to figure out what she really knows about her family. The movie won the Gold List Award for Breakout Indie Film.

Most recently, Sophia was seen as Chloe Frazer in the 2022 action adventure “Uncharted”, starring Tom Holland, Antonio Banderas, and Mark Wahlberg.

Sophia’s fans will be happy to hear that she’s completed the filming of her new project, entitled “The F*** Happened”, which should be released soon.

Love life and relationships

Like many actresses, Sophia has been the subject of various rumors concerning her romantic life, however, she hasn’t commented about these assumptions as she prefers to keep her personal matters away from the public eye.

What we do know is that from 2017 through 2019, Sophia was in a relationship with her fellow actor, Tyler Posey. The two met on the set of the movie “Truth or Dare”, and began dating soon afterwards. They made their first public appearance dining in a restaurant together, and when Tyler posted their joint photo onto his Instagram account, their love story became official. The two seemed in love, and occasionally shared their photos with heartwarming captions, however, in December 2019, Tyler stated that he’s single. Sophie hasn’t commented about the reason for their split, but Tyler said in one of his interviews, that he sometimes has the tendency to mess up relationships.

As of March 2023, it seems that Sophie is single, hasn’t been married or engaged, and doesn’t have children.
