Who is ZillaKami?

ZillaKami is an American rapper, singer, songwriter and record producer, possibly best known to the world as a member of the hip-hop group City Morgue, and as a pioneer of trap metal, a fusion genre that combines elements of trap music and heavy metal.

ZillaKami Wiki: Age, Real Name, Childhood, and Education

Junius Rogers was born on 20 September 1999, in Islip, New York City USA. He hasn’t talked much about his childhood, so there’s no information about his parents and early life on the whole, however, it is known that he has a brother Peter Rogers, who is the CEO of the music label Hikari Ultra, and goes by the name Righteous P.

His educational background is unknown, though it is believed that he’s matriculated from a local high school in Islip.

Career Beginnings

ZillaKami became interested in music in his teenage years. However, Influenced by Gorilla Biscuits, instead of rap he started the punk rock band Scud Got Quayle, formed with his high school friends. However, his interest in rap increased as he got older, and he first turned to hip-hop, then became a ghostwriter for New York rapper 6ix9ine.

He wrote a duet song and said to 6ix9ine that he should find a second vocalist – the next thing ZillaKami knew was that 6ix9ine invited him to feature on the song, and as a result, ZillaKami and 6ix9ine recorded the song “Yokai”. This was followed by another collaboration, this time on the song “Hellsing Station”.

However, their business relationship came to an end in August 2017 when ZillaKami’s brother posted a picture of 6ix9ine in a sexual act with a 13-year-old girl. Furthermore, the rapper refused to pay the money he owed to ZillaKami and his brother.

City Morgue Formation

ZillaKami and Vinicius Sosa, known as SosMula, the second member of City Morgue, got together the first day he was out of prison after serving time on drugs charges. SosMula is the son of a tattoo parlor owner in which ZillaKami’s brother worked. The two bonded over the same interest in music, and began writing songs. They created a number of songs with the help of record producer Bouabdallah Sami Nehari, known professionally as Thraxx.

Critical Acclaim

The trio put together some songs and released their debut EP entitled “Be Patient” on 19 August 2018. It was followed by the studio album “City Morgue Vol 1: Hell or High Water”, soon after which, ZillaKami and SosMula announced a tour in support of the album. The tour was sold out in a short time frame, which encouraged them to continue making new music.

Their second full-length album, “City Morgue Vol 2: As Good as Dead” came out on 13 December 2019 and landed on No. 16 on the Billboard 200 chart. Some of the popular songs from the album include “Neck Brace”, “Draino” – a duet with Denzel Curry, “The Balloons”, and several others, all of which added to the popularity of City Morgue.

Continued Success

Following another successful album, they went on another tour and gained international acclaim. Their next release was the mixtape “Toxic Boogaloo” (2020), which spawned such hits as “The Electric Experience”, then “Hurtwrld ‘99”, and “Prosthetic Legs”, among others.

After some time out of the studio, the trio returned in 2021, and, in October released their third and latest studio album, “City Morgue Volume 3: Bottom of the Barrel”; however, it’s failed to chart, but still created hit songs such as “Hot Shells”, “Everything is Broken”, “Flap Lips”, and “Mutt B”.

Since then, City Morgue has worked with South Korean rapper Keith Ape on the EP entitled “$moke Under the Water”, which came out on 11 March 2022.

They are now working on their fourth studio album, “City Morgue Volume 4”, which is yet to receive its release date – SosMula has said that this would be the last City Morgue album.

Solo Career

In addition to his work with SosMula and Thraxx, ZillaKami has released music as a solo artist.

His first solo release was the EP entitled “LifeIsAHorroMovie”, which came out on 30 April 2017, before City Morgue. In between albums and tours with City Morgue, ZillaKami worked on his own music, and on 31 March released his second EP, entitled “German Dogs”.

To speak further of his accomplishments as a solo artist, ZillaKami released his full-length album “Dog Boy” on 17 September 2021 through Hikari-Ultra and Republic Records, but the album failed to chart, nevertheless spawning such hits as “Not Worth It”, “Chains”, “Space Cowboy”, and “Chewing Gum!”.

He worked with several popular artists on the album, who include Denzel Curry, Lil Uzi Vert, and Corey Taylor from Slipknot.

ZillaKami has guest appeared on numerous songs by several artists, including Cameronazi, Yadkin, Stoney, Lil Gnar, Trippie Redd, and many others.

Successful Businessman

In addition to his career as a rapper, ZillaKami is a successful businessman, having launched his own skate and apparel brand Dog Years Skate Club. He designs and sells t-shirts, hoodies and other apparel, alongside skateboards.

According to reports, ZillaKami’s net worth has been estimated at around $500,000 as of late 2022, earned through his successful career as a musician and as a business owner.

In regard to his personal life, ZilaKami hasn’t talked much about it, however, it’s known that he had a girlfriend in the past named Dee, who died of a drug overdose; no further information about their relationship is available.
