She grew up with an older sister in a rather abusive household; their mother was abusive towards the girls, and drunk more often than not. After this, she spiraled into drug abuse and dealing crack on the streets of Atlanta, using the name Rabbit. She has spoken about her troubled upbringing in her autobiography “Rabbit – The Autobiography of Ms. Pat (2017)”.

After serving time at Fulton, Ms. Pat moved to a suburban neighborhood. She started a new life, trying to get her GED and a certificate to begin working as a medical assistant.
