The anthology series “Why Women Kill”, which follows the story of three women in different decades, all living in the same house, began airing in 2019, and besides the lead female characters, one male character caught the eye of the audience. At first as the character named Karl Grove, and then as the voice of The Narrator, the actor who portrayed and voiced these characters is Jack Arthur Davenport.

Besides the mentioned roles, he has over 65 acting credits to his name, and is perhaps known best as Norrington in “The Pirates of the Caribbean” franchise, but also for his notable television roles, such as his portrayal of Miles Stewart in the popular ‘90s series “The Life”.

Early life and education

Jack was born under the zodiac sign of Pisces on 1 March 1973, in Wimbledon, London, England; his nationality is British and he comes from a family of English, Scottish and Northern Irish descent.

He was brought up by his parents Nigel Davenport and Maria Aitken, who are both actors, and the family of three lived in Ibiza, Spain, until this parents divorced. Jack was seven years old, and to keep him away from the divorce proceedings, his parents sent him to the Dragon School, in Oxford, England, then to Cheltenham College, and upon matriculating in 1991, Jack enrolled into the University of East Anglia, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Film Studies and English Literature in 1995. An interesting fact about Jack is that he didn’t plan to become an actor, however, the director from Theatre Clwyd saw his performance in a summer drama course, and invited Jack to work for him.

Jack made his acting debut in 1997, as a Student Zoo Keeper in “Fierce Creatures”, followed by his role as Robert Bradley in the TV movie “The Moth”, and then in 1998, he was cast to play Malcolm in “Macbeth”, before his role as Detective Barton in “Tale of the Mummy” and as Sergeant Roche in “Immortality” in the same year.

In the following years, Jack starred in a few documentary movies, and then in 2005, he was seen in “The Wedding Date”, before in 2006 reprising his role as Norrington in “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest”, which brought him the Teen Choice Award Movie – Choice Rumble, which he shared with Orlando Bloom.

Jack again reprised his role as Norrington, in “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End” in 2007, and then two years later, he was cast to play Twatt in “The Boat That Rocked”, a musical comedy drama, written and directed by Richard Curtis.

In 1996, Jack made his first television appearance and his breakthrough role, as Miles Stewart in “This Life”, and after that was cast to play Detective Sergeant Michael Colefield in “Ultraviolet” in 1998, followed by his role as Steve Taylor in “Coupling” from 2000 until 2004.

In the following years, Jack guest-starred in “Marple” and “Mary Bryant”, before in 2008 portraying Bruce Miller in “Swingtown”, and in the following year was cast to play Lloyd Simcoe in “Flashforward”.

Love life and marriage

Jack hasn’t been the subject of any rumors and controversies regarding his love life, and it’s widely known that he is a married man. His wife is actress, Michelle Gomez, perhaps known best for her role as Missy in the series “Doctor Who”.

Jack saw Michelle for the first time in a stage production of “Trainspotting”, and returned the next day to watched the play again, then went backstage to introduce himself, however, as Michele said, she wasn’t impressed right away as he was ‘too young and too posh’.

They went out on a date, and soon after became a couple, and after three years, he proposed to her. They were engaged for a year before the two exchanged their wedding vows on 1 May 2000, in a private ceremony at a Glasgow church, Michelle’s hometown in Scotland.

The two moved to Los Angeles, California USA in 2007, and in 2010 welcomed their son Harry.

As of April 2022, Jack and Michelle are still in a marriage, and raising their son together.
