Early life

Jayda Ayanna Cheaves was born on 25 September 1997 in Savannah, Georgia USA. She has a younger brother, Jaelen “Len,” and an older sister, Jazmine Ameerah, who was born on 26 September 1995 in Savannah. Jayda’s mother is named Tricia.

Jazmine is a social media personality, podcast host, and businesswoman, who’s amassed over 320,000 followers on her Instagram account, jazminecheaves, on which she shares fashion and beauty content revolving around her profession, a lash technician. She has held seminars about eyelashes, owned a salon, The Glam Trap, in Decatur, Georgia, and sold products online. Moreover, Jazmin hosts the podcast Not Crazy Just Misunderstood, has a brand, Lookin Ameerah Cookware, and a clothing line, TRAP ANGELS.

Jaelen Cheaves is an aspiring basketball player for his Savannah-based high school team and a social media personality; his Instagram account, @jaelencheaves, has accumulated 47,000 followers. According to Afrotech, Jayda has considered herself a hustler from a young age and cited selling her grandmother’s baked goods in school.

Early education, source of career

Jayda matriculated from high school a year early in May 2015. Some online sources claim that she attended Windsor Forest High School in Savannah. Jayda said in her REVOLT interview that she always had a knack for fashion, would switch her outfits daily, and try her best to improve standard outfits such as her school uniform. She also knew that school was never her thing and dreaded going; her classmates felt like kids, but she was a straight-A student and wanted it to be over quickly.

She initially tried to become a rapper in a hip-hop group, and was good at freestyling. Then, Jayda sold used clothes via the Poshmark mobile application. She noticed that they sold within minutes, so she created a brand and sold new stuff. The timing was ideal; she lost her waitressing job for dying her hair blue, which was against the workplace rules, but hated that position, and only stayed because her grandmother doubted that social media could be a job.

Consequently, Jayda launched the A’mour Hustle T-shirts, in collaboration with a local printing company. She said that she overpromised but delivered with the help of her sister, mother and grandmother, who helped her ship the tees.

Career

In 2016, Jayda relocated to Atlanta to start a business and network with like-minded individuals, according to her Rolling Out interview. She said one of her goals was to inspire young girls and show them that life isn’t perfect. Jayda added that being a Libra had a noticeable impact, as it made her indecisive. After moving, Jayda founded the company that made her a millionaire, AmourJayda.

She credits her stepfather for influencing her to start it, as he’d been a business owner for years. At first, she sold clothing and some fashion products in a brick-and-mortar store and online, on her website www.waydashop.com. Eventually, Jayda expanded to wigs, hair extensions, and hair care products and renamed it Amour Jayda Hair. She was so determined to get the price and quality right that she sent her father to China to talk to a manufacturer.

Simultaneously, Jayda hosted weekly paid fashion and business webinars, Marketing Mondays, for about 500 listeners. However, she ran out of things to discuss, and couldn’t figure out a time that fitted everyone, so she quit after three months. Jayda published “The Young Boss Blueprint” in 2018 to remedy those issues.

Instagram

Jayda started her career on Instagram using an account with the handle thejaydacheaves, which played a critical role in promoting her business. She’d been popular in her hometown, so her organic following only blew up after she relocated. In November 2018, Jayda posted for the first time on her new Instagram account, @jaydacheaves, on which she’s amassed over 8.8 million followers. Most of her initial posts revolved around the birth of her son, then she started modeling for brands such as Dior, Stash House Miami Boutique, CHILDSPLAY CLOTHING, and Beyani Hair Collection. Jayda also frequently collaborated with fellow social media personalities and business owners Cee Monaco, Dess Dior, and Chalynn Monee, some of whom were part of her rap group.

Jayda was open about using Instagram as a sales funnel, but noted that she never wanted to ruin her reputation for money. She even admitted to ESSENCE that she ‘wants to be the same Jayda in 20 years, even if social media changes completely.’

Creating WAYDAMIN

Jayda said in 2018 that her dream was for her brand to have stores worldwide; a specific goal was to have a two-story building with a hair salon, a spa, and a store so that she could offer people several things in one place. In 2021, Jayda started a second personal brand, WAYDAMIN, a short version of the phrase ‘Wait a minute!’ that included her nickname. Additionally, @waydamin has been her handle on the Twitter (now X) platform for years. Jayda saw it as an evolution of her clothing line, intended for women of all shapes and sizes, focusing on activewear, swimwear and comfort, including loungewear.

The fact that her first merchandise drop sold out in a few minutes gave Jayda the courage to ramp up production, which included getting a warehouse, hiring employees, and promoting her mother to general manager. She previously worked alone or with family members, and handled nearly everything, from sourcing to shipping and interacting with customers.

Unfortunately, Amour Jayda Hair suffered, and Jayda rarely mentioned it after 2021. Its dedicated Instagram account, @shopamourjayda, is private, and the website’s domain mentioned above is offline. Jayda explained in her REVOLT interview that she couldn’t manage both brands at once. Moreover, her Chinese distributors began sending her unrelated products to fulfill her order. At the same time, the quality of previous hair-related items worsened, and she felt that God was guiding her towards a new path—developing WAYDAMIN.

Jayda looked up to Kylie Jenner and Rihanna, who transitioned from modeling and singing to entrepreneurship, and became self-made billionaires. Consequently, Jayda announced her plans to become a billionaire, ideally by 2027, and revealed that her future product lines would be in makeup or skincare categories. Jayda told Teen Vogue in 2022 that ‘she plans to open pop-up stores, and sell her clothing in Nordstrom stores, and acquired a new warehouse in August 2023. However, she clarified that she intends to be the best at everything, and never waste money. Thus, she would only invest in cryptocurrencies, stocks, and bonds after thorough research.

YouTube

Another contributing factor to Jayda’s success is her YouTube channel, @JaydaCheaves, on which she has amassed close to 400,000 subscribers. After posting her first vlog in December 2018, she primarily shared behind-the-scenes footage of her life, including birthday celebrations, pivotal moments in her son’s upbringing, meet-and-greet events, and creating her brand’s campaigns. Jayda viewed it as a free expansion of her webinars, allowing her to teach young entrepreneurs while getting their hair and makeup done, driving her car, or preparing for press events.

Acting

Jayda made her television debut in November 2021, in the talk show “The Real,” hosted by Jeannie Mai Jenkins, Loni Love, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, and Garcelle Beauvais. She also attracted attention for explaining her life story, and demonstrating her business acumen in eight episodes of “The Impact: Atlanta” documentary television series in 2022. Jayda also debuted as an actress that year, by playing the supporting role of Juvie in the drama film “Bid for Love.” Jayda told REVOLT that ‘she killed the role shortly after getting an acting coach and unexpectedly got swarmed with offers for new projects.’ That success also sparked a desire to make her book a series.

Ex-boyfriend, rapper Lil Baby

Jayda was in a relationship with American rapper Dominique Armani “Lil Baby” Jones from 2016 to 2021, although not consistently. Thus, many online sources cite the start of their relationship as June 2017. According to Baller Alert, Lil Baby heard about her through a prison cellmate. He told him that Jayda would be his girlfriend one day and persistently messaged her via social media. Although they connected, Jayda told Roling Out that they had little time for each other.

Consequently, Jayda said that she frequently had to trust the rapper, and only argued with him over meaningful problems. The media reported that the relationship between Jayda and Lil Baby started to deteriorate in 2020, despite her appearing in the music video for his song “Catch the Sun,” which was released that year. They broke up in February or March 2021, but agreed to co-parent Loyal and maintain their friendship. Jayda accused him of cheating, but saying that she initially thought that she was the problem.

Jayda appeared in the music video for his song “Go Hard” in April 2023, prompting rumors that they’d rekindled their romance. However, HotNewHipHop reported that she told YouTuber Zias in an interview that ‘she gave the relationship another chance and it backfired.’ Moreover, Lil Baby was spotted dining with Khloé Kardashian around the release date, indirectly dispelling the gossip.

Son Loyal Armani

Jayda announced her pregnancy in 2018, and their son, Loyal Armani, was born on 18 February 2019; Jayda created an Instagram account, loyalarmani, on his behalf in November 2019, which has accrued almost 600,000 followers, which is helpful because Jayda and Jazmine said that Loyal has a knack for acting, and loves to watch them cook. Jayda revealed that she’s also set up a bank account for Loyal, and also has a limited liability company (LLC) in his name, plus his name is copyrighted. That was important because, in February 2021, she released a children’s book, “A Day With Baby LA,” in which Loyal is the main character. She will set the money from sales aside, but will require Loyal to reach the milestones she sets to earn it. Loyal has an older half-brother, Jason, who was born on 9 September 2015. Jason’s mother is social media personality, entrepreneur and musician Ayesha Howard.

Dating history

Jayda has been linked to rappers Kodak Black from 2016 to 2017 and Lil Duke in 2017, according to Whosdatedwho.com. However, little is known about her, as she wasn’t a prominent social media personality. Jayda previously captioned one of her Instagram posts with a confession that ‘she’d been in relationships since high school and wanted to learn to be single.’ Moreover, after the break-up, she admitted that many guys hesitated to approach her because of Lil Baby’s influence. In her Cigar Talk interview, she said she prefers men from the hood because they understand life’s struggles and are usually protective of her.

Physical characteristics

Jayda has black hair and dark brown eyes, is 5ft 1in (1.55m) tall, weighs about 120lbs (55kgs), and has a curvy physique. Surgical operations have contributed to Jayda’s success, but she purposefully avoided discussing them to avoid misguiding girls who admire her into thinking that they need them. She admitted to getting illegal injections into her posterior, likely buttocks and hamstrings, but noted that they were dangerous and that many people had them removed. Moreover, Jayda admitted to having a breast augmentation operation in 2017, and told Breakbeat Media that she enjoys working out and dancing and twerking to music at home.

Tattoos

Jayda has at least six tattoos, her first in 2015, Arabic lettering along her spine, which translates to ‘Love yourself first.‘ Another two are the Bible passage, Psalms 23:4, ‘I will fear no evil; for thou art with me’ across her ribs on the right side, and her son’s name tattooed on the right side of her neck. ‘Corinthians 13 7-8,’ also referring to the Bible, is tattooed on Jayda’s right forearm. Jayda’s most prominent tattoos are a red rose surrounded by flowers on her left shoulder and a mandala design of intertwined leaves and flowers on her right buttock and down her thigh.

Net worth

Jayda has a net worth of about $10 million. She told Rolling Out that she earned $2.5 million from selling hair alone from 2016 to 2018, and sold tickets to her webinars for $50 per person in 2018. Furthermore, Jayda has promoted brands such as Juicy Couture, Fashion Nova, Hermès, and Pretty Little Thing, and claimed that she made over $8,000 per Instagram post in July 2021, according to The Shade Room. Thus, she charges double or triple that amount in 2023.

Jayda enjoys investing in high-end products, particularly luxurious jewelry, handbags, and watches. Moreover, she posted pictures of her luxurious vehicles, which included a red Maybach, a black Rolls Royce, a white Mercedes Benz, and a customized Jeep Wrangler. Jayda lets her friends drive her cars, and might even own a few others.
