Garett Nolan is a 26-year-old American social media personality, model, singer and former cyclist, possibly best known for his TikTok account, @garett__nolan, on which he’s amassed over 14 million followers.
Early life
Garett “Gare” Nolan was born on 11 December 1997, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania USA, and grew up in South Williamsport. His mother is Sue Cosentine-Nolan, and his uncle, Mark D. Nolan, works or has worked for the military. Garett has a brother and a half-brother.
Early education, source of career
Garett started building his physique in 2012 when he joined the USA Cycling team in competitive mountain biking. A year later, he competed in the Cross-County Mountain Bike National Championships, eventually participated in three National Cross-County competitions, and was among the top five contenders nationwide. Garett matriculated from South Williamsport High School in 2016. In 2018, Garett enlisted in the US Marine Corps, and was an active United States Marine Corps Reserve (USMCR) member as of late 2020, an infantry assault man.
According to Garett’s old LinkedIn profile, he attended Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to study early childhood education and teaching, but dropped out. Instead, Garett studied at Lees-McRae College in Banner Elk, North Carolina, US, and Lycoming College in Williamsport from 2016 to 2020, pursuing a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (M.B.B.S) in cardiovascular science from the latter institution, but didn’t specify whether he graduated, only in his OK Magazine interview from December 2022 mentioning that he abandoned his university studies twice.
According to Garett’s new LinkedIn, he enrolled at Pennsylvania College of Technology in 2020 to pursue a health sciences degree, hoping to become a physical therapy assistant in New York City, after graduation, unconfirmed to date.
Career
Garett started his career as a model for Wilhelmina Models and CLICK Models of Atlanta in July 2017. He signed with Click Models Management Inc. two months later and remains a model for the company. He has modeled for Wrangler, Primark USA, Spencer’s, and boohooMAN and posted pictures on his Instagram, garett__nolan, on which he’s accrued over 365,000 followers. He also appeared on the cover of Major Magazine USA Volume V in January 2021.

Garett created his TikTok account in November 2019, and posted in January of the following year. He was among the first US-based users to receive the verified checkmark. Garett attracted attention by posting videos of himself singing while holding his grey cat, Ivan, which would scratch his naked chest, begin hissing, and even claw Garett’s face whenever he sang a high note. He told OK Magazine that he never planned to post the first video, and merely recorded the event for his brother, who felt that others should see it.
Garett later expanded to uploading videos about healthy cooking, everyday situations, and fitness. In 2023, he pivoted to mental health topics, particularly issues with anxiety, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), family problems, and relationship issues. He also stated that he wants to raise awareness for domestic abuse and sexual assault. Garett subtly revealed that he was a victim of rape in late 2017 by posting a few TikTok videos with the tag #neverforget. In one, he entered a forest with military attire and left shirtless, suggesting that it happened outside while he was in the military, but unconfirmed.
Controversy
Garett has been active on Instagram since July 2017, and based his content on weapons that he handled at work, such as the Mk 153 Shoulder-Launched Multi-purpose Assault Weapon (SMAW), doing military-inspired workout challenges, and posting modeling shots. However, some of his near-naked pictures and videos were in what was or resembled military garb, which many called ‘thirst traps,’ i.e., sexually suggestive.
Many Instagram and TikTok users, including TikTok personality Sean Hayden, a US Army member at the time, argued that Garett’s content was unfit for an active military service member. He was deemed part of the problem; for example, two military service members posted a video of themselves twerking to the song “WAP” by rapper Cardi B in August 2020 while in uniform, sparking outrage.
Additionally, in late 2019, under the guidance of then-president Donald Trump, the Army, Navy, and the Pentagon banned TikTok among service members at work because of its Chinese origins and funding, and many felt that it should apply outside of their workplace. However, US Marines never issued a public statement to clarify whether Garett and others infringed on an official conduct policy.

Garett made his singing debut as a featuring artist with the 2020 single “Closer To Me” by Nick McWilliams. A year later, he released two singles, “Black Sheep” and “Adieu Addie,” and in 2022, a single entitled “HER.” In September 2023, he was the featured artist in the song “Get off Your Knees” by Wenzl McGowen.

Ex-girlfriend Ashlee Yoo
In 2021, Garett posted a series of workout videos with a fellow TikTok user, @ashlee.yoo, and called her ‘his queen.’ He then posted a few videos in which he danced with Ashlee or brought her products to help her manage her period. The two eventually kissed, confirming their relationship. However, Garett and Ashlee stopped filming videos in mid-2022, and Garett revealed that he missed her, then told E! Online that his song “HER.” was about his breakup.
Sexual orientation
Many of Garett’s followers believe that he’s gay or bisexual, but Garett is likely straight or bisexual. He told Major Magazine USA in 2021 that his first celebrity crush was actress Megan Fox. Additionally, in the “Not so PG Podcast” episode from December 2023, he stated that he had tried bondage with two girls because he watched the “Fifty Shades of Gray” movie.
