American actress, comedienne and musician Tawny Newsome, was born in Vacaville, California USA, on 24 February 1983, making her zodiac sign Pisces. She’s had roles in nearly 50 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for her portrayal of Captain Angela Ali in the comedy series “Space Force”, created by Steve Carell, who also stars in it alongside John Malkovich and Ben Schwartz. It follows the people who are in charge of creating The Space Force, the series has been airing since 2020, and has been nominated for 13 awards.

Education and early life

Tawny was raised alongside her younger brother in Vacaville, by their parents whose names haven’t been disclosed as Tawny respects their privacy; it’s believed that her mother’s a high school teacher, and her father a rancher.

She grew up on a ranch, which was how she became an animal lover at a very early age. Tawny became interested in music and acting while attending a local high school, appearing in many school plays and comedy shows. Upon matriculating in 1999, she enrolled at DePaul University’s Theatre School, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2003.

Early career

Tawny began performing with the improvisational theatre troupe The Second City upon graduation, and also became a member of a tribute band of the American rock ‘n’ roll band Talking Heads, touring with it around the US.

Tawny remained focused on music, and appearing in theatre plays until 2013, when she made her debut TV series appearance in the comedy “Stupid Bitch Syndrome”, as well as her debut film debut in the short comedy “Black Ice: Chicago Blackhawks 2013 Stanley Cup Anthem”.

Tawny played Jen in the 2013 episode “A Problem House” of the action drama “Chicago Fire”, and could then have been seen appearing in an episode of the action thriller drama “Crisis”, the romantic comedy drama “Sirens”, and the comedy “2 Broke Girls”.

The year 2017 saw her play Grace in the comedy “Nobodies”, created by Hugh Davidson, Larry Dorf and Rachel Ramras, who all also starred in it too; it follows several friends as they’re creating a children’s show. In the same year, Tawny played Nina, the lead character in “The Comedy Get Down”, created by Tom Brunelle and Brad Wollack, and which also starred Eddie Griffin and Steve Berg; it follows a group of comedians as they’re sharing their backstage stories.

It follows a group of realtors working at Platinum Realty in Los Angeles, California; the series was nominated for a Casting Society of America Award for Outstanding Achievement in Casting – Short Form or Web Series.

Three of Tawny’s most recent TV series roles have been in five episodes of the 2022 comedy drama “Physical”, three episodes of the short comedy drama “Star Trek: Discovery Logs” since 2021, and 30 episodes of the animated adventure “Star Trek: Lower Decks” (voice role) since 2020; she’s currently shooting for the upcoming series “Scroll Wheel of Time”.

Roles in movies

In 2015, Tawny portrayed Cute Hipster Girl in the mystery crime drama “Uncle John”, written and directed by Steven Piet, and which starred John Ashton, Alex Moffat and Jenna Lyng Adams. It follows a man who’s returned to his hometown to help his uncle, who’s just been accused of murder; the movie won six of its 10 award nominations.

A couple of Tawny’s following roles were in 2016, in the science fiction thriller drama “Einstein’s God Model” and the comedy “It’s All Good”, and then the 2018 thriller drama “Canal Street”.

In 2019, she was cast to voice Agency Employee in the popular animated action adventure “Spies in Disguise”, directed by Nick Bruno and Troy Quane, and which starred Rachel Broshahan, Jarrett Bruno and Claire Crosby. It follows a tech officer who has to try and save the world now that the world’s best spy has been turned into a bird; the movie was nominated for four awards.

Also in 2019, Tawny played the lead character in the not-so-popular crime comedy “Ride or Die”, and her only other two movie roles have been in 2021, in the comedy “How It Ends” and the adventure comedy “Vacation Friends”.

Tawny’s let her fans have a glimpse into her love life, and has revealed that she married non-celebrity American Nate Urbansky on 23 September 2013, in a small ceremony attended by not more than 150 of their friends and family members; the two had previously been in a relationship for three years.

Nate’s today working at Harper Radio WHCM, and has also helped produce some of Tawny and her band Four Lost Souls’ music; their self-titled debut album was released in 2017, but they’re yet to release a second album.

Tawny and Nate don’t have children together, as they prefer to focus on their careers.

Tawny hasn’t spoken of the men whom she dated prior to meeting Nate – she’s married to Nate Urbansky as of October 2022, and doesn’t have children.

Tawny rode competition rodeo while growing up, but never progressed from the ‘Future Champion’ category.

She enjoys running her Instagram account, and there are over 60,000 people following her today, while she’s posted close to 1,500 pictures and videos onto the social media network.

Tawny loves to watch animated comedy series, and her favorites are “Rick & Morty” and “The Simpsons”.

She likes to visit historical locations, and has recently been to Rome, Italy; some of the pictures which feature her standing close to the Colosseum can be seen uploaded onto her Instagram account.

Tawny’s favorite actors are Christian Bale and Gary Oldman, and some of her favorite films include “The Big Short”, “American Hustle” and “The Fighter”.
