Jason Genao Wiki Bio
American actor Jason Genao was born in Jersey City, New Jersey USA on 3 July 1996, making Cancer his zodiac sign. He’s appeared in 14 movies and TV series, and is perhaps known best for playing the lead character Ruby Martinez in the popular comedy series “On My Block”, which Jeremy Haft and Eddie Gonzalez created, and which also starred Brett Gray and Sierra Capri. It follows the lives of four friends as they’re attending high school in South Central Los Angeles, the series aired from 2018 through 2021 and won one of its 10 award nominations.
Education and early life
Jason and his two brothers David and Danny were raised in Jersey City by their Dominican-American parents, but Jason has shared only a couple of details about his family, because he respects their privacy; it’s believed that his father’s a mailman, and his mother a housewife.
Jason studied at William L. Dickinson High School and was 15 when he joined its drama club and began appearing in school plays; although focused on acting, Jason was into several other activities during those four years, as he took dancing lessons, practiced creative writing and played soccer.
He matriculated in 2014 and began working on his career, rather than to enroll at college.
Roles in movies
Jason’s debut film role was playing Agente FBI in the 2015 comedy “Ladrones”, directed by Joe Menendez, and which starred Fernando Colunga, Eduardo Yanez and Cristina Rodlo. It follows thief Alejandro Toledo who’s trying to steal back the land that was taken from a hard working community, and return it to them; the film won one of its two award nominations.
What is perhaps still the most popular movie in which Jason’s appeared was the 2017 science fiction action “Logan”, which James Mangold directed, and which starred Dafne Keen, Patrick Stewart and Hugh Jackman. It follows mutant Logan who’s been leading a peaceful life for years, but is now helping save a mutant child who’s being pursued by scientists; the movie won 28 of its 109 award nominations, including an Oscar nomination for Best Adapted Screenplay.
Jason could then have been seen appearing in the 2019 science fiction thriller “Max Winslow and the House of Secrets”, the 2020 short drama “The Priest” and the 2020 short action “Gucci Guilty: Recuerdo”. Also in 2020, he played Max in the comedy “Film Fest”, written and directed by Marshall Cook, and which starred Matt Cook, Diona Reasonover and Laird Macintosh. It follows a group of struggling moviemakers as they’re trying to sell their films at a festival.
Jason’s since appeared in only two movies: he played Star in the 2023 science fiction thriller “Divinity” and Boyd in the 2023 action war thriller “Ambush”.
Roles in TV series
Jason’s debut TV series role was playing William Reeves in the 2016 episode “Forty-One Witnesses” of the mystery action “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”, and in 2016 and 2017, he portrayed Napoleon in the musical “The Get Down”, created by Stephen Adly Guirgis and Baz Luhrmann, and which starred Justice Smith, Shameik Moore and Herizen F. Guardiola. Set in the ‘70s, the series follows a group of teenagers as they’re running wild in the streets of The Bronx, and it won five of its 13 award nominations.
The year 2018 saw Jason play Isaac in the episode “Heavenly Taco Truck” of the fantasy comedy “God Friended Me”, and most recently, in 2022, he portrayed Devon in the fantasy comedy mini-series “Boo, Bitch”, which Erin Ehrlich and Lauren Lungerich created, and which starred Mason Versaw, Zoe Margaret Colletti and Lana Condor. It follows two best friends who are trying to be seen at school, while one of them has now become a ghost.
Jason’s currently shooting for the upcoming series “Free to Fall”.
