Career
Charlie made his film debut in the short movie “Aryl & Ybur” in 2013. In the year that followed, he made an appearance in the 12th episode of the CBS TV show “The Millers” entitled “Miller’s Mind” – the show revolves around the story of a dysfunctional family, and stars Will Arnett, Jayma Mays, J.B. Smoove, and Margo Martindale. In 2016, he portrayed Adam in the first and third episodes of the comedy-drama TV series “Better Things” entitled “Sam” and “Brown” respectively; the series stars Pamela Adlon, Hannah Alligood, and Mikey Madison. Charlie next played Chuck in the 2017 Matt Spicer-directed comedy film, “Ingrid Goes West”, which starred Aubrey Plaza as Ingrid Thorburn,, and Elizabeth Olsen who portrayed a social media star.
Wright made his career breakthrough in 2017 when he was cast as Rodrick in the David Bowers-directed family drama “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Haul.” Before it was released, 20th Century Fox uploaded its trailer on YouTube, and announced that Wright would be replacing the Canadian actor Devon Bostick, who had portrayed Rodrick Heffley in the other three installments of “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” The trailer received 85% dislikes and the announcement resulted in a backlash on several social media platforms; fans of Bostick felt that Charlie wasn’t ideal for the role as the former was and even made the hashtag “NotMyRodrick” trend to boycott the film.
