Who is Tobias Jelinek?

American actor Tobias Jelinek was born under the zodiac sign Pisces on 9 March 1977, in Leesburg, Virginia USA. He has 57 acting credits, perhaps known best for playing Lead Agent in six episodes (2016) of the fantasy horror series “Stranger Things”, which Ross and Matt Duffer created, and which today stars Winona Ryder, Finn Wolfhard and Millie Bobby Brown. It follows a group of children fighting supernatural forces, and the series has won 110 of more than 400 awards for which it’s been nominated.

Early life and education

Tobias was raised in Leesburg by his parents whose privacy he respects, and thus no details have been disclosed about them by Tobias; it’s believed that his mother’s a high school history teacher and his father a retired Armyman but this hasn’t been confirmed. Tobias hasn’t spoken about having siblings but it’s believed that he was raised alongside his younger brother.

He studied at a local elementary school and was nine when he became passionate about acting; Tobias appeared in various school plays and eventually transitioned to appearing in theatre plays. He was 15 when he was spotted by a talent agent and was 16 when he made his film debut, playing Whammyburger Customer in the 1993 crime action “Falling Down”, which Joel Schumacher directed, and which starred Michael Douglas, Robert Duvall and Barbara Hershey. It follows a man as he’s having a psychotic breakdown, and the film won one of its three award nominations. Also in 1993, Tobias played Jay in the critically acclaimed family fantasy comedy movie “Hocus Pocus”.

He matriculated in 1995, and although Tobias hasn’t talked about his further education, it’s believed that he attended college, and that he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in 1999.

Tobias only other role in the ‘90s was playing Motorcycle Gang Member in the 1997 action science fiction “Batman & Robin”, directed by Joel Schumacher, and which starred Chris O’Donnell, George Clooney and Arnold Schwarzenegger. It follows Robin and Batman as they’re protecting Gotham City from Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy, and the film won 10 of the 32 awards for which it was nominated.

Tobias’ following role only came in 2007, when cast to star as Waiter in the short thriller “The Brass Teapot”, and he could then have been seen appearing in the 2008 short comedy “Stuck”, the 2009 short fantasy “Bittersweet Paradise” and the 2009 comedy “Snakes of Justice”.

In 2013, he portrayed Seth Bernstein in the comedy “The Golden Scallop”, directed by Joseph Laraja, and which starred James Cosmo, Nicole Steinwedell and Marnie Schulenburg. It follows a group of people competing in the Golden Scallop Championship, and the film won five awards. Some of Tobias’ following roles were in the 2014 horror “The Possession of Michael King”, the 2014 short science fiction “The Trail’s End” and the 2015 short crime action “A Killer of Men”.

The year 2018 saw him play Philip in the thriller “What Still Remains”, written and directed by Josh Mendoza, and which starred Mimi Rogers, Colin O’Donoghue and Lulu Antariksa. It follows a girl trying to survive in a world destroyed by a mysterious virus.

Some of Tobias’ most recent film roles have been in the 2019 short science fiction “Birth of a Monster: A Star Wars Story”, the 2022 comedy “Confessions of a Closeted People Pleaser” and the 2023 horror thriller “The Resurrection of Charles Manson”.

Roles in TV series

Tobias’ TV series debut was playing New Dad and several other characters in four episodes of the 2011 comedy “Pretend Time”, then the year 2013 saw him portray Phillip Reed in two episodes of the hit crime thriller “Southland”, created by Ann Biderman and which starred Regina King, Shawn Hatosy and Michael Cudlitz; it follows the lives of several Los Angeles police officers, the series aired from 2009 through 2013, and won 15 of its 41 award nominations.

Tobias could then have been seen appearing in an episode or two of the soap opera “The Young and the Restless”, the comedy “Shameless” and another comedy “The Mindy Project”.

In 2016 and 2017, he played Dylan in 11 episodes of the comedy “Rhett and Link’s Buddy System”, starring alongside Link Neal and Rhett McLaughlin. It follows Link and Rhett as they’re trying to stop their former girlfriend from stealing their show “Good Mythical Morning”, and the series won one of its three award nominations.

Some of Tobias’ most recent roles in TV series have been in two episodes of the 2023 fantasy horror “Mayfair Witches”, the 2023 episode “Cabin Fever” of the crime action “NCIS: Hawai’i” and three episodes of the 2023 action comedy “Obliterated”.

Tobias rarely speaks about his love life in public but we know that he’s today a married man.

He and his other half Irina Costa exchanged vows in a small and private ceremony on 8 September 2012, attended by only their closest family and friends; it’s widely believed that Tobias and Irina had previously been together for three years but this remains unconfirmed. They have two sons together, but the boys are being kept away from media as their parents want them to be able to lead normal lives.
