His parents met at Stanford Business School, where his father gave a lecture and his mother was a student. They apparently fell in love at first sight and married a year and a half later at a ceremony in Yosemite National Park, on 18 March 1991. They remained together until his father passed away in 2011 after battling pancreatic cancer. He has two younger sisters – Erin Siena Jobs was born on 19 August 1995, while Eve Jobs came into this world on 9 July 1998. In 1976, Steve Jobs’ friend Steve Wozniak completed the design of the Apple I computer, and started to sell it through Apple Computer Company (now Apple, Inc.) which the two co-founded. It was an instant hit that quickly helped them gain enormous popularity and wealth. It led them to create the Apple II computer which was a bigger success, since it was one of the first mass-produced microcomputers.
In 1976, the company’s revenues were $175,000, which grew to $2.7 million within a year, and by the end of the decade, Apple went public after earning $117 million in sales. In 1984 they developed Macintosh, which was the first mass-produced computer with a graphical user interface. It was initially widely acclaimed by the media, until sales dropped due to its slow processing speed and limited range of available software. The next year, Jobs was forced out of the company after a long struggle with its board, and then-CEO John Sculley.
Continued Success
Following his departure from Apple, Steve Jobs took several Apple employees with him to establish another technology company called NeXT, that specialized in producing computers for higher education and business use.
He also worked on the visual effects industry when he funded a part of George Lucas’ Lucasfilm computer division, called Pixar Animation Studios, which produced the first 3D computer-animated feature film “Toy Story” in 1995, and became a major animation studio, producing more than 20 film titles since.
