Born Desiderio Alberto Arnaz IV on 19 January 1953 in Los Angeles, California, USA, he’s the son of Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. His parents were the stars of the TV sitcom “I Love Lucy”, and his mother’s pregnancy was written into the storyline – the day Desi was born, in the show, his mother gave birth to the fictional character Little Ricky. Desi has an older sister Lucie, born in 1951.
His birth was one of the most publicized in television history, turning him into a star at birth, preparing him for a future in the show business; as a baby, he appeared on the cover of the first issue of the popular magazine TV Guide. His character in the show was later portrayed by Richard Keith who spent time away from the set with Lucie and Desi Jr., and the two became close friends; he even taught Desi to play drums.
