Who is Bruce Greenwood?
Stuart Bruce Greenwood was born in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Canada, on 12 August 1956 – his zodiac sign is Leo, and he holds Canadian nationality. He’s an actor and film producer, with more than 150 acting credits to his name, while he’s perhaps still known best for his portrayal of Pike in the 2009 action science fiction adventure movie “Star Trek”, directed by J. J. Abrams, and which starred Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Simon Pegg. It follows James T. Kirk as he’s trying to prevent a vengeful Romulan from destroying the Federation with his black holes, and the movie won 28 awards, including an Oscar for Best Achievement in Make-up, while it was nominated for 95 other awards.

Early life and education
Bruce was raised in Rouyn-Noranda alongside his younger sisters Kelly and Lynn Greenwood, by their father Hugh John Greenwood who was a geophysicist and who taught at Princeton University, and their mother Mary Sylvia (nee Ledingham) who was a nurse.
Bruce became interested in acting when he was around 17 years old, and then appeared in a play performed at his high school. He was also quite sporting during his teenage years, as he played both soccer and ice hockey.
He matriculated in 1974, and then enrolled at University of British Columbia, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in philosophy and economics in 1977.
Roles in TV series
Bruce made his debut TV series appearance in the 1977 episode “The Witness” of the adventure comedy “The Beachcombers”, but only gained recognition in 1986, when cast to play the supporting character Dr. Seth Griffin in the comedy drama “St. Elsewhere”. It was created by Joshua Brand and John Falsey, starred Ed Begle Jr., Howie Mandel and David Morse, and follows the lives of people working at Boston’s St. Eligius Hospital; the series aired from 1982 to 1988, and won 38 awards, including 13 Primetime Emmys, while it was nominated for 83 other awards.
What marked the ‘90s for Bruce was perhaps his portrayal of the lead character Thomas Veil in the mystery science fiction thriller “Nowhere Man”, created by Lawrence Hertzog, and which also starred Megan Gallagher and Marvin LaRoy Sanders. It follows a documentary photographer whose existence has seemingly been erased, while he’s now set on learning how this has happened; the series aired in 1995 and 1996 and was nominated for two awards, including a Primetime Emmy for Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.

Roles in movies
Bruce made his debut film appearance in the 1979 action mystery adventure “Bear Island”, and a couple of his following roles were in the 1982 action adventure thriller “First Blood”, the drama “Striker’s Mountain” and romantic drama “Peyton Place: The Next Generation” both in 1985.
He gained recognition with his portrayal of Stuart Ramsey in the 1992 action crime thriller “Passenger 57”, directed by Kevin Hooks, and which starred Wesley Snipes, Bruce Payne and Tom Sizemore. It follows the people flying on a passenger jet which has now been taken over by a group of terrorists. Some of Bruce’s other notable performances in the ‘90s were in the drama “Exotica”, and the romantic mystery drama “Harlequin: Treacherous Beauties” both in 1994, and the 1999 mystery crime drama “Double Jeopardy”.
What marked the 2000s for him was perhaps his portrayal of Lawrence Robertson in the evergreen action science fiction mystery “I, Robot”, directed by Alex Proyas, and which starred Will Smith and Bridget Moynahan.
