Anthony Darelle McFarland was born on 18 December 1977, in Winnsboro, Louisiana, USA. He hasn’t shared the names and vocations of his parents, although he said that he has two siblings. Growing up, he was a misfit kid and did all kinds of crazy things. He had a lot of nicknames during this time, but the nickname ‘Booger’ stuck with him and followed him until today.
He attended Winnsboro High School, during which he played football for the school team. After matriculating, McFarland was recruited by Louisiana State University, and joined the LSU Tigers football program, playing for the team as a defensive tackle between 1995 and 1999.
In his first year, he started every game as a defensive tackle, and performed 73 tackles for loss and two quarterback sacks.
He became pretty popular with the team and the fans, and continued to post great numbers playing as a fullback for short-yardage plays.
McFarland was one of the crucial players in the victory over Michigan State at the 1995 Independence Bowl. He led the team to Peach Bowl in 1996, and the 1997 Independence Bowl. He won the 1996 Peach Bowl SEC Defensive MVP honors.
In 1998, his team didn’t have a good season overall, but he still won first-team All-SEC and All-America selection, while in 1999, he played in the Senior Bowl.

Professional Career
McFarland was chosen as the 15th overall pick in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his first season, Booger played in 14 games, none of which were starts, however, he still managed a total of 16 sacks and four tackles for loss.
His numbers significantly improved the following year. He started in all 16 games, and had 50 tackles in total, with 31 solo tackles and seven tackles for loss.
He continued to post great stats. In the 2001 season, Anthony McFarland had 41 tackles in total and seven tackles for loss. In 2002, he became a Super Bowl champion with the Buccaneers, that season playing in 10 games, all starts, and had more than impressive results, with 21 tackles.
However, his best season was in 2003, when he started all 16 games and had 50 tackles, 38 of which were solo, alongside seven tackles for loss.
He remained with the Buccaneers until 2006, with the 2004 season jeopardized by injuries and so playing in only eight games.
Nevertheless, he returned for 2005 and 2006 in full health and to good numbers, with 27 and 40 tackles, respectively.
In October 2006, he was traded to the Indianapolis Colts for a future second-round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft.
That season, he recorded 33 tackles and 2.5 sacks, though the Colts couldn’t brag about formidable defense, as they finished last in rush defense.
Nevertheless, Indianapolis Colts reached the play-offs where their defense improved. They limited the Kansas City Chiefs to 44 rushing yards, while the Baltimore Ravens had 83 rushing yards, and the New England Patriots had 93.
The Indianapolis Colts reached the Super Bowl XLI – Booger McFarland was the starting defensive tackle, and he recorded a sack, helping the Colts defeat the Chicago Bears 29-17, thus winning his second Super Bowl ring.
Before the next season began, McFarland was released by the Colts as he suffered a knee injury in training camp, which had put him out of the playing field.
Retirement and Broadcasting Career
Following his retirement, McFarland joined Tampa sports radio station WHFS, and co-hosted a radio show with Marc Ryan until 2014, when the station changed its owners, and its program to become a music station.

After this, McFarland became a football analyst for SEC Network, and furthermore joined ESPN’s Mike & Mike morning program as a part-time guest analyst. This lasted a few years before he started working as a sideline reporter and consultant for “Monday Night Football”. During these broadcasts, Booger McFarland would announce games from atop a crane-like contraption, which became known as the ‘Booger Mobile”, but was criticized for blocking the view of fans who were close to the field. After enough negative comments, the whole construction was modified.
