Who is Joel Fry?
British actor and musician Joel Fry was born in London, England, on 20 May 1985, making his zodiac sign Taurus. He’s had roles in over 50 movies and TV series, and is perhaps best known for his playing of Hizdahr zo Loraq in eight episodes (2014-2015) of one of the best rated series of all time – the action adventure drama “Game of Thrones”. D. B. Weiss and David Benioff created the series, which starred Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage and Emilia Clarke, and follows nine noble families as they’re fighting for the lands of Westeros; the series aired from 2011 to 2019, and won 447 of its 1,080 award nominations.
Joel’s still quite active in the movie industry, and is currently shooting for three upcoming films: “The Queen Mary”, “The End We Start From” and “Bank of Dave”.
Education and early life
Joel respects his family’s privacy, and hasn’t shared many details about his parents, who raised him in London; it’s believed that his father was a musician, and his mother a professional dancer. Joel hasn’t spoken of having siblings, so some of his fans believe that he has none.
He was attending a local high school when he became interested in acting, but still chose to focus on his education, having been urged by his parents not to pursue acting straight away.
Joel matriculated in 2003, and then enrolled at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in 2007.

Joel’s debut film role was his playing Swing in the 2007 comedy “Sound”, while some of his following roles were in 2008 in the action adventure drama “10,000 BC” and the drama “A Distant Marriage”, and the 2009 romantic drama “Octavia”.
The year 2010 saw him play Steve Culley in the popular romantic comedy drama “Tamara Drewe”, directed by Stephen Frears, and which starred Gemma Arterton, Luke Evans and Dominic Cooper. It follows a newspaper writer who’s returned to her hometown, and learned that her childhood home is about to be sold; the film won three of its six award nominations.

In 2013, Joel portrayed Christmas in the musical horror drama “Rock and Roll Fuck’n’Lovely” and Macca in the musical comedy “Svengali”. His next notable performance was in 2017, when he played Postman in the adventure family comedy “Paddington 2”, which Paul King wrote and directed, and which starred Hugh Bonneville, Hugh Grant and Ben Whishaw. It follows the talking bear Paddington, who’s bought a gift for Aunt Lucy, which has now been stolen; the film won 14 of its 67 award nominations.
Joel’s three most recent film roles have been in the mystery horror thriller “In the Earth”, the adventure crime comedy “Cruella” and the adventure family drama “A Boy Called Christmas”, all released in 2021.

Joel’s debut TV series appearance was in the 2007 episode “It Never Rains…” of the drama “Casualty”, and he gained recognition in the following year, when cast to play the lead character Swing in the comedy “Massive”, which also starred Beverly Rudd and Faye McKeever, and follows Shay and Danny who’ve quit their jobs and launched a record label.
Joel portrayed various characters in the 2009 comedy “No Signal”, and could then have been seen playing supporting characters in the crime drama “The Bill”, the comedy “The Impressions Show with Culshaw and Stephenson”, and the crime mini-series “Public Enemies”. Between 2011 and 2013, Joel played Leighton in the comedy “Trollied”, created by Paul Doolan and Ash Atalla, and which starred Rita May, Jason Watkins and Faye McKeever; it follows a group of people working at a supermarket in England, and the series won an Albert+ Sustainable Production Certification Award.
Joel’s also known for his playing of Hal Fine in the 2018 mystery fantasy mini-series “Requiem”, created by Kris Mrksa, and which starred Lydia Wilson, James Frecheville and Sian Reese-Williams. It follows a cellist whose mother has recently committed suicide, and the series won two awards.
Joel’s three most recent roles have been in a 2019 episode of the comedy “This Time with Alan Partridge” (voice role), 10 episodes of the 2022 biographical action adventure “Our Flag Means Death” and all the seven episodes of the family drama “Lovely Little Farm”, also in 2022.

Joel produced the 2013 short thriller comedy movie “Slap” and wrote the 2014 short comedy film “Gannets”; he’s the writer of the upcoming short comedy movie “One for the Road”.
He made a guest appearance in an episode of the talk-shows “Made in Hollywood” and “Hollywood Insider” in 2021.

Joel and his colleagues won a 2020 CinEuphoria Merit – Honorary Award for their performance in “Game of Thrones”.

Some of Joel’s fans believe that he’s gay, claiming this to be the reason behind him avoiding to talk about his past and present relationships; a fan has also claimed to have spotted Joel spending time in public with his boyfriend, but none of this has been addressed by Joel.
There’s also a rumor circulating the internet today, claiming that Joel’s in a long-term relationship with a non-celebrity American woman, but prefers to keep it under wraps; this hasn’t been confirmed either.
Joel seems to be unattached as of November 2022, hasn’t married and doesn’t have children.

Joel doesn’t have his own Instagram account, but a fan account was launched on 2 June 2021, today followed by nearly 3,000 people, and numbers over 150 pictures and videos uploaded onto it; the owner of the account is Italian woman Noemi.
He’s passionate about music, and was once a member of the band Animal Circus; their one and only extended play “Snakes and Ladders” was released in 2012. Some of Joel’s favorite musicians are Prince, Whitney Houston and Elvis Presley.
He keeps in shape by working out at the gym a couple of times every week, while he also often plays tennis with his friends.
Joel’s favorite actors are Anthony Hopkins and Jack Nicholson, and some of his favorite movies include “Anger Management”, “Fracture” and “Hannibal”.
